I'm ready to get back into my favorite pastime. I've decided to get into again with either a recurve or longbow. No more fancy overdraws, releases, sights, 80% letoff, or other doodads. I just want to learn to shoot instinctively.
Anyway, what are the advantages/disadvantages of the recurve vs the longbow?
Another question, I had a 31" draw with a compound, but I have a 28" draw with a recurve. Why is that?
well i personally like shooting with my recurve or longbow because of what you said "No more fancy overdraws, releases, sights, 80% letoff, or other doodads". its simple and thats what i love and what most of the people on here love too. And you have a shorter draw because with a compound your drawing underneath your chin and with a recurve or longbow its proly only coming to about the corner of your mouth. oh and since your just switching when you get your bow make sure you dont over bow yourself.
Great to have ya back,, :thumbsup: as said above don't go over bow yourself yet and as for the longbow/recurve thing,,It aint no thing,,just shoot what feels best in your hand..Lots of folks have both,,Keep an eye on the classifieds and you'll find a grat bow for a great price.,,J
Stay away from the short ones (under 58"), and don't overbow yourself! Have fun!
My arrow length increased when I moved from a compound. Mainly because my anchor is furthur back then it was when I shot a release, the arrow rest is closer to my bow hand, and I leave more arrow out front because shooting off the shelf I cant draw a broadhead past the front of the riser.
I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as the arrows fly straight.
Your draw may change a little as you develop your form with a recurve/longbow as well.
