This is I think my 3rd homemade longbow. 66" and 52 lbs. Maple cores killed several deer and pigs with it maybe 8-10 years ago..

RC, you and Pat B. are my heros. If I could only have 1/4th the success and hunt opportunities y'all have it would be many times the harvests and opportunities I have had. I retire next July. I plan on trying to catch up with you guys, if that is even possible.
I have not made any bows though :(
When you retire come to Ga. and hang out a bit. We`ll have some fun.RC
Darn it now I want to build a bow again.
My first I built a 55@28" 60" (only because I messed the tips up....I was attempting to build a 62") hybrid longbow.
(http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z463/dlnwohio/2011-10-23_16-47-44_697.jpg) (http://s1191.photobucket.com/user/dlnwohio/media/2011-10-23_16-47-44_697.jpg.html)
Curly maple veneers and bacote handle. I had a great year with that bow killed 4 does all from the ground. The tips are antler from my first trad buck. Also killed my first trad turkey the fallowing spring with it, a 23 pound tom with a 10" beard.

thats all i got.
Way to go with the homemade sticks, guys!
I have only built one bow myself but have never killed anything with it. It just does not seem to "fit" me and I am not near as confident with it as I am my others. That being said, I will never sell that bow either!
Seeing all of y'alls pic makes me want to break it out of the closet, practice a bit, and go shoot a critter, so I can add a pic to this thread!
Bisch
Here's the first deer I killed with a bow I made (2010). The bow as cherry limbs with actionboo core, walnut riser, 68" 54# @ 28".
And here's one from 2012. This bow is black glass on the back, clear glass on the belly over curly maple, actionboo core, cocobolo riser, 68" 58# @ 28".

I still have yet to kill a buck with a bow I made. Missed one a couple years ago. Maybe this will be the year with this bow. I went "old school" with this one...brown glass on the back, gray glass on the belly and myrtle riser.

Here's mine. First glass and take down. I don't have any kill pictures with it yet but hope to change that this year.

This is awesome!!! Hope to make my own at some point.....way to go guys! :notworthy:
Very cool. I wish I could find the time to tackle building bows and trad hunting. For now I'll just have to admire the great work of others.
Jsweka, That bow laying on top of the doe is a fine looking bow.
Those are some beautiful bows guys!
I clicked on here expecting to see some sticks with strings but you guys are some excellent craftsmen! Hats off to ya

Thanks RC. Here's a couple better pics of it. It is one of my favorites, but is due for a refinish job after getting banged around for a couple seasons.

brian you made a mess with that whitetail....hope you brought some paper towels in your backpack!!!! :bigsmyl:
great thread...some nice looking animals...this is a pick of a bow I just put together...its a riser I made up almost 25 years ago...
I just got a set of 50# limbs for it...the 70's I used to shoot were just too much for me now...maybe it has something to do with my gray hair?? LOL...

I think the deltas shoot a lot better now with the lighter limbs too...
Almost a "longbow", the tips are bent a little.

Great bows everyone!! This is an awesome thread.
Homemade bows just have something special to them. If I'm not hunting with one of my own, I'll be hunting with one I received in the bow swap over on the Bowyer's Bench. I just can't see myself ever buying a bow again.
Here's my first osage selfbow I made back in the mid '90s. Never killed anything with it but never hunted with it a whole lot either 'cause it's a little too much for me to handle:

Blaino... That riser piece isn't more than 8" long. But that's deceptive.
The belly lam was pretty thick to start so that I could scrape it down to make weight and tiller. The riser piece was blended into the belly lam. The stiff "riser section" was longer than just the dark wood.
It's an all bamboo modeled after John Shulz's "Naturals" using Howard Hill's bamboo. It's a shooter.

Me too. Some amazing craftsmanship and these pics are awesome.
Hey, RC. Haven't spoke to you for a while but here's a couple pictures I had of some deer with bows I've made. Shot a bunch more, just don't have the pictures. Included better pics of the bows on thosew hunts as well.

Osage selfbow 59# @ 27" kind of a narly piece has a hole in the bottom limb.
Seems to work OK though.

Osage/Cocobolo take down longbow. I built it in 2006 for a South Dakota mule deer hunt. I even made the whitetail antler burr limb bolts. Still shoots great today.
