Title: Kudos for Jim Neaves @ Centaur!
Post by: nineworlds9 on August 19, 2013, 10:18:00 PM
Well, just took a big step and got on the list for a new Centaur.

Just got off the phone with Jim and I'm impressed and glad to have spoken with him.  You can tell he loves what he does and he answered all my questions with zero hesitation and with gusto.  I have a huge appreciation for his commitment to materials R&D and striving for the best way to do things and deliver a wonderful shooting bow, which I am so excited I get to validate in about a year!

I have been researching pics and reviews of his bows for quite some time now.  Up til now there is only one bowyer I have worked with on a NEW build, and that is Leon Stewart.  Also one of the good guys and one of my favorite if not THE favorite of those I have had the privilege to shoot.  I have been and will continue to give used bows good homes and sell/trade like I always have but for me it takes something special to make me want to commission a brand new bow at top dollar.

I felt I was on a good path learning about and getting interested in Centaurs, and let me just say that one phone call to Jim and our leisurely and unpaced conversation is what tipped the scale.  A gentleman and a pleasure to deal with.  I am very excited to get a bow built with him just in time for 2014 hunting season.  Thanks Jim!  Talk to you 'soon'!

The bow I 'believe' I'm going to commission is going to be very similar to the Dark Matter Carbon Elite with the cottonmouth skins on his product showcase page.  I'm stoked!  The fact that I get to go buck wild on customizing the grip is a huge deal to me.  Wonderful.

This new bow that will be waiting for me next season is going to be one step closer for me to keeping the bow collection as small as possible, yet choice and effective.

I think if there was one guy I'd pick to go hunt with it would be Jim.  I've never met him but the hours we've spent on the phone seems like a great friend.  I guess he doesn't make a bad bow either.

Congratulations, I now Jim has been at it for a while... I'm sure you'll be pleased...

Tick Tick Tick.. Nice to take the leap...

You know it is nice to take the leap.  I will say so far working with Leon on a bow, buying a perfectly spec'd Robertson 'off the rack' from Dick and Vikki, and now dealing with Jim have been the best bow purchases I've made.  The classifieds stuff is fun and I've found some neat bows and tried some great stuff, but when you do finally get one built or buy one that has never been shot or hunted by anyone but you, well there's something special about that you don't get when you buy used.  But buying used certainly is fun, no doubt.

I would bet you are going to love this bow. Jim is the real deal as a bowyer. Class act all the way and as fine a guy as there is.

God bless, Steve

I sure hope so.  I have a good feeling  :)

That's quite a sincere and strong endorsement Steve.  Cool!  Coming from you, a bowyer yourself, and knowing by your words on the forums what a stickler for bows that perform equal to their reputation/mystique that you are, that is huge, and really makes me feel like I made a right move by getting on the list.  Good stuff.

He just refinished a bow and applied copperhead skins and all I can say is you can't do better then this.  Beautiful.     :clapper:
My next bow will be a Centaur.

Chuck,

That TD Dark Matter on Jim's website with the Cottonmouth skins is my personal bow.  Sweet and fast!

You will not regret getting a Centaur.

Make sure you talk to Jim about the takedown and a long draw length.  I really wanted the TD dark matter and someone told me Jim does not recommend the TD for a draw length past 29". I DID NOT CONFIRM THAT WITH JIM, but it was a trusted TG member - obviously Jim will get to that when you move up the list, but might save you some time dreaming.....

Thanks Mike, glad for the heads up, I will remember to ask him about it since I'm over 29.I am considering the T/D option, however a one piece would satisfy me as well.  It'll only be a 62" bow, relatively easy to transport.

Hey all, just stumbled on this thread. Thank you all for the kind words and you as well Steve you build very beautiful bows and your work is outstanding. To answer the question about the td and draw length.....Nothing is any different than what you get with the one-piece bow. No draw length restrictions with the td.
God Bless:-)

It is a month that I am shooting my Triple carbon Dark Matter Td and all I can say is that I am very impressed with it.
At the same draw weight of my Top Recurves it takes the same arrow and same  top performances in speed and smoothness.
Quiet and death on my hand, accurate too. I ain't a long bow guy but this bow has the best spects of both wolds.
Jim is a pleasure to deal with too.
Thanks for such a great bow.

Today I took delivery of a used but "as new" built this year Carbon Elite, 58" 52@28.  Couldn't wait and had to try one before my spot comes up come 2014.

WOW WOW!!  Holy $@&$!!  This thing puts arrows into orbit. Quiet, and no handshock.  I was worried 58" wouldn't be enough for my little over 29" draw.  WRONG.  It's perfect.  And it's so handsome and nicely finished. By my dumb luck the finger grooves fit my hand perfect.  First owner must have same size hands as me.  It's a dymondwood riser 1pc.  Originally, I really want a Dark Matter triple 62".  I'll have to decide whether this one is enough or whether to get another or whether to keep this one until I build a new one.  Again, Jim kudos x10!  You build some special bows!  Looking forward to 2014 and glad I have one to shoot now.  What bang for the buck.
