Hey guys I have been using a recurve for as long as I have been shooting traditional archery. Well for some unknown reason I felt that I had to have a longbow. I thought they looked simpler and more graceful than a recurve. I finally had a chance to shoot a longbow a month or so ago and while the hand shock was a bit of a surprise to me I loved how dead quite it was. I decided I will use my bear grizzly for the rest of the season than buy a longbow next spring. I happened to be cruising the classifieds late one night and I saw a deal I couldn't pass up. A beautiful 59# cari-bow wolverine. It was the exact # and length I wanted. Having never shot a cari-bow before I hoped the grip would fit me well as I bought it on a whim. Well I've been shooting her a lot and all I can say is I love it ! It is fast, light, and quiet !Plus there is no hand shock that I can feel at all. With a new skinny string and good pair of silencers I think she will become dead quiet. With this kind of performance and simplicity I don't see the need for me to get another recurve. I will have to keep saving for another longbow :biglaugh: Here are some pictures. She has quilted maple limbs with moose antler furniture. Right now im in the process of tuning it with some heritage 250s and 145 grain points. She is going to be a serious deer killer this fall. Enjoy SS.

Nice bow!
I'm a longbow guy too! I have a couple recurves but the only time I ever shoot them is at a 3D shoot where I can shoot another class. I shoot my recurve well, but there are 2 things that I just hate about recurves:
1) I HATE STRINGERS! You need to use a stringer to string/unstring a recurve and I hate the things. I lose them all the time.
2) Recurves make a "TWANG" sound while longbows make a "THUD" sound. I just can't get used to that twang!
Congrats on your new bow and good luck this deer season!
Bisch
Me too. I shoot the 2 recurves I have well, but I always grab a longbow first when I go shoot. Something about them that draws me to them.
Nice bow.
love that riser
is that antler on the front?
That sure is one pretty bow!
Slickhead, Yes that is moose antler on the front with moose antler tips and beaver tail arrow rest. It is almost to pretty to shoot ! But don't worry she shoots as good as she looks !
Congrats on a beautiful bow! I love my Wolverine too! Abe does awesome work for sure.
Looks like you picked a winner. Nice stick! I'm more or less a longbow guy too. A recurve has to be exceptional for me to want to keep it. I found my one recurve in my Roberston. The rest are all longbows, except for a Super Kodiak GG I just picked up to play with. If it proves itself it might be my 2nd to last recurve LOL. Longbows rule!
yep
Longbows rule.
Been shooting a Savannah for years.
Love the pointability
Id like to get a forward handle LB one day
I'm a die hard R/D longbow fan. To me they have the best feel and I much prefer the thud noise to the twang noise that a recurve makes. I also don't like stringers and don't need one for a longbow. That's a mighty pretty bow you have there.
Very nice!
You can't go wrong with a Caribow! Good choice! As for preferences, I like well designed bows, not matter if it is a LB or recurve.
I like my Caribow Peregrine very much. The hybrid design gives a sweet draw, good speed, and low noise. Very forgiving also and a great , repeatable grip. No hand shock, just some light vibrations after the shot. An SBD skinny string even gives a better performance.
But I like my recurves too! Both my Whippenstick and RER are very quiet, and a joy to shoot! Blazing fast, dead in the hand, and very very smooth to draw. Longbow quiet. Both have great grips too.
Sometimes I like the simplicity and low weight of my Peregrine and sometimes I like to shoot my higher mass recurves.
Giving me hard time which one to shoot!
Reading your post reminded me of exactly the same scenario in my longbow life. I was shooting my custom Bighorn recurve and borrowed a friend's Arkansas Stick longbow for fun. Holy smokes, it was SO much quieter and LIGHTER. It weighed nothing in the hand and dead quiet. I was hooked. I've lost count of how many longbows I've bought and sold and traded.
Hi. I'm Bruce and I'm a Tradgang classifieds longbowholic.
Enjoy the journey, sir. That's one purdy bow you got there.
Beautiful bow! My story is similar to yours, except I picked up a Wes Wallace Royal from a good friend. I don't see myself shooting anything else in the near future.
That's a beautiful bow! May it shoot as good as it looks! Gotta love them Caribows!
