To be all day long or, just early morning and then evenings? When I go out, I like to spend the entire day afield. Next Saturday is opening day for the early season here in Oregon and I plan to be out before the sun is up and coming home after it has set. Looking to get that first ever so, every minute in their environment hopefully will improve my chances.
Good luck to all no matter how you hunt!
I like all day when it's cold. Before 10 am and after 4 pm when it's hot. That's less than a month away for Maryland.
All day hunts are the most awesome, but I seldom get to do that.
I am usally a morning or an evening here and there. I do not get to hunt as much as I would like to.
When your time in the field is limited, do you guys stand hunt or spot and stalk?
when i do go hunting i like to go get deer or not then come home . will spend a few hours hunting say 4hrs then head off home. but i can do that as it is only 1/2 hr drive from home. limited time whats that LOL!!!! spot and stalk or ambush any way to get the boogers
I used to hunt every day of the season. I'd sit all day when the rut kicked in. There were days in the early part of the season where I'd sit a stand in the am, then do some drives on othrr ptoperty in the afternoon, then sit again for the evening.
I like to get into the tree well before sunrise then go back out in the afternoon and sit till dark. But usually I will take the week of veterns day in november off and live in the tree sun up till sun down.
good luck brother!!!!!!
I can't hardly sit in a stand all day. Most times I hunt from an hour before daylight to about 10 or 11 in the morning, then take a lunch break, then hunt again the last 3 or 4 hours of the afternoon. I'm not really patient (slow) enough to stalk hunt but I do on occasion. Mostly stand (either tree stand or ground blind) for me.
Good luck on your "First Ever". The poem after that one should be epic!!!!

I like all day and even overnights when I can get time. Other wise I hunt from sun up to about 2 or 3.

I don't have the land to hunt to stalk other than to and from stands so stand hunt morning and evening. I hunt to about 11 most days if near any bedding area. Less time if far from bedding and close to food. Early season most days you will see nothing unless you are right in bedding area cover and catch some mid day movement. I hunt all day pre-rut and rut.
If I hunted areas where water was a big draw in the heat of the day, or I could glass and stalk beaded animals, I would do things different.
All day hunts are impossible for me in a stand, my back is too sore after a few hours for it to be enjoyable. If I'm going to hunt all day from one spot it has to be a ground blind.
Hunting all day is great but I usually make it just a morning or evening, sometimes both with lunch back at the truck or home in between.
I like to get up the tree and settled in just before I can see good. Then hunt till I get ready to walk back home. Most of the time that's about 10:00am to 12:30pm when I've thought of something else I'd rather be doing.
I used to always go back in the afternoons, but very seldom do anymore..getting too old to make two walks way back in and don't have enough confidence in the close spots to put my heart into it. Never liked sitting all day. When I used to hunt places too far back in to come back out and go back in I'd take a lunch and small jungle hammock (rolls up the size of a baseball..still got it) and take a little nap during the middle of the day after I ate.
Like my eggs-over easy! Afternoons for me. Hap
I love spending the entire day in the field, but with the streak of bad luck I've had.... I just hope my hunt is successful lol
Hey T W
I Usually spend the whole day in the field also, sometimes a little nap at mid day sometimes a hike to another place but usually hunt til dark.
You going west to the coast range or east to the cascades or further east?
Good luck.
John
All day here. When going after coyotes I can use a half a tank of gas going to different stands, I only spend 10 -20 minutes in a stand. Deer hunting in the sierras you need to hunt for them sitting and waiting just does not work you never know where they are at. Sun up till sun set. Coyotes its till I can't see.
Whoops hit to many keys delete please
That depends on what the family is cooking back at home.
Mornings and evenings when lunch is something GREAT. All day when food is average or subpar. If it's too hot, then only mornings.
Our deer season is around 75 days. I hunt most if not all of them. Some days only for 45 minutes after work. Depending on the time of season and such, I will hunt mornings til ten and than afternoons from 2 til dark. During the rut I like to hunt from mid morning til dark as I feel going in early may disturb the does going into bedding and mess up what the bucks will do when they come scent checking the doe bedding areas. I do sit all day a few days a year. All during the rut. Shawn
I can rarely sit all day because I get fidgety. I like to get in my stand well before sunrise and sit until 10 or 11. Then in the afternoon I usually head out around 3 and sit until after sundown.

John, I hunt just on the other side of Lebanon, OR. See blacktails all the time so, yet to go anywhere else. I hunt alone and don't know to many people so, not familiar with areas on the coast or the Cascades. Good luck to you also!
This year, I'm trying out my new tree seat so, moving after the morning session won't be a problem and will allow me to try other areas for the evening part. during the mid portion of the day, I may spot and stalk while looking for a place to plant for the evening.
If I'm whitetail hunting near home, its usually morning-evening except during the peak of rut.
If I go out of state or put together an out of the "norm" hunt, I go all day every day.
I am a morning and then afternoon hunter not by choice. Either my hunting partner (my son) wants to head back home or my wife has things that she wants me to do around the house. Good luck to all.
I like any and all kinds of hunts. However, I get to hunt more evenings.
Mornings are best for me. I like to get on the stand about an hour before daylight so the woods can settle down by the time I can see to shoot. Usually I stay till about 10:00 or sometimes less in the extreme heat of early season. Later in the season as it cools down, I stay longer, sometimes till midday. I don't hunt much in the afternoons as I usually have to work on the honey-do list.
I only hunt afternoons for the most part. I can hunt really hard for 3 hours then I get bored or too stiff to enjoy the tree anymore.
Our deer season last 4-5 months depending on the zone. I usually dont start until mid october and its usually mornings and evenings. Late oct-mid november im in the woods all day. November- january i usually hit the woods around 10 till dark.
Ive killed alot of deer from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
Good luck on your first, you will never forget it.
