we got pics of her 2 years ago none last year but again this year.i sent the pics to our loacl bioligists and had 2 reply saying that there would be nothing wrong with the meat as other than the growth she is a healthy deer.they said nothing as to wether this was a genetic thing that could be passed on.

My buddy shot one like that. The meat is fine.
thats what they said but she sure ain't no looker lol
It's a virus. We use to see it around here more frequently. They're goof to go, I'd shoot and eat. She's pretty big.
I'd go for the broadside on the bunny!!!
Does look like a healthy deer, but reminds me too much of my father...he had a massive cancerous growth in his cheek. They removed it and he's cancer free today, but it still looks too much like that for me....
I'd go with the biologist though.
That looks nasty, but I'd shoot it.
One more step forward then BLAM!
she's down in a salt lick, cancer is what i thought of when i seen it ceme24
"Lumpy Jaw" is caused by an arterial worm. The worm causes partial paralysis of jaw muscles. Food gets stuck in the deers mouth between the jaw and gum and it causes an abcess like huge lump. Most lumpy jaw looks like this:

I have shot and eaten a deer like this with no ill effects. Your deer looks like it has something different though, as the lump is all black and nasty looking.
Bisch
Heck yeah I'd eat it! Drain the pus out of that pocket to use as gravey!
You don't have to kiss her! Just make meat out of her... :dunno:
... mike ...
If it is what Bisch said, I dont think eating it would be a great idea. A jaw/tooth/mouth abcess would spread infection throughout the bloodstream and in turn the tissues. I'm not sure that without encapsulation of an infection/abcess the deer could live. I may shoot but probably would not eat it.
:saywhat:  Don't think I'd eat it.
one biologist said he thought it was a "cutaneous fibroma". and the other said he thought it to be an enlarged wart.both said no problem as far as eating the meat.jsut wondered how many of ya'll wouldn't have a problem with it.i know the first time i evver seen a wolf come out of a squirrel in early season it put me off of that paticular tree rat.
they did say something about the lumpy jaw but didn't think that was the case in this doe bisch
She looks to be healthy, and I'm not a biologist so, I would probably pass. If it looked like she was suffering, then I'd do the humane thing but, would not eat.
I would shoot it and eat it.

WOW, that's classic hahaha
Drain the puss out and use it as gravy. That was gross and funny at the same time. Nice on V Gorilla..
What's the big deal? I got a buddy that chews tobacco and he looks like that all the time! :p

No that is not correct. The Lumpy Jaw does not affect the meat in any way from everything I have read. Like I said, I shot and ate one with Lumpy Jaw about 17-20yrs ago and I'm still kicking!
Bisch
Don'tlook like lumpy jaw, moreso a wart. I have shot quite a few over the years with warts some so bad you could not really tell their head from the wart. I have eaten all of them with no ill effects. Shawn

Yea your still alive but aint been the same since. :bigsmyl:
This deer as you say has been alive three years. I think she's fine.
I would shoot and eat! I'd try for the rabbit also.
Yes.
I would go for the rabbit but not the doe. We can't shoot does here. I think she would be fine to eat. Ate coyotes that looked worse. JK on the coyotes.
I wouldn't shoot her at that angle, but if she would turn a little bit...
I answered "yes" before I saw the picture. After viewing the picture, my answer remains the same!
Thumper you eat coyotes! Do they taste like chicken? As for the doe I would eat that!
Is that pic from here in north Alabama?
Yes, I killed a little buck like that years ago.
I would shoot and when butchering her I would pay close attention to the meat. If it looks fine I'd have no problem.
that's a tumor-like growth, not lumpy jaw. The meat is fine.
refugerambler the doe pic is from lamar county i from up this way though over in town creek in lawrence co.
There's an old saying " you are what you eat".....and I've been called worse. LOL. AND...I've eaten things that look a lot worse than that as well. Now for the PUSS part ????? :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
A fibroma is like a wart. That's what it is and the deer's completely safe to eat.
that doe gets around the block. thats a bad case of herpes. shoot.
I've seen it before, and people in the know say fibroma also. No effect on the meat, other than psychological
NO way do I kill that deer for food. Shoot the bunny.
God bless, Steve
She has one on her ear as well, it is a type of wart. As I said before shoot her and enjoy the meat! Shawn
