Title: Strung Padded Bow Cases
Post by: LYONEL on August 14, 2013, 08:25:00 AM
G'day
I am hoping to get some recommendations for Strung Padded Bow Cases. I know of a few models out there by Neet, Vista, Kathy Kelly , 3 Rivers & X-Spot but I have never seen any of them in the flesh. So any recommendations or comparisons would be appreciated.
Thanks

Howdy!
I bought the Shooting Star case from RMSGear and really like it.  They're hand made in Colorado, exceptional quality, and priced very well.  I have Selway slide-on quivers on all of my bows, so this was exactly what I needed.  Best regards.

I hunt a lot out of a boat and needed a case to protect my recurves with the quiver on and full of arrows.   I picked up a padded case from Black Widow (I think it's made by Neet) and it works really well for me.  It has a fiberglass piece that keeps the case expanded at the fletching end to keep your feathers from getting smashed but they are still fully covered.   I've used it for a couple of seasons and am very pleased with it.

The Black Widow case that Dark Timber mentioned and  the Shooting Star that Chase Perry mentions are the two that I have and which work very well

I have the Kathy Kelly and have used it for years. I put my Schafer Silvertip recurve in it and it works with my bow quiver. It also has a zipper pocket for things.

I have a Kathy Kelly that has served me very well for several years.  Great functional design and quite well crafted.  If something happened to this one I would order another immediately.  Wouldn't want to start hunting season without it.

I use the Black Widow padded case. I really like it for several reasons, one being that it will hold the full size plastic arrow case in the very large pocket. The BW case seems to have more than enough padded protection for average traveling. Oh ya, it's very affordable.

Thanks for your input guys, the black widow case is the only one I've seen that takes a bow with a quiver with the arrows in it, it does look a little narrow for a strung bow though. Do they fit ok?

Been using a Neet for about 10 years now with no issues with the padding or the zipper so it has my vote.

The X-Spot is alot cheaper than other ones is there a reason for this?

Here is a photo of my Kathy Kelly strung case. Kustom King sells them, but they look like they are green now instead of black. It works great and folds up nice. There is felt inside.

I use the strung bow with quiver case from 3Rivers and think it is the best. I've hauled my bow around the bush in Africa and Australia with great protection.

This is the exact same one that I have. Works great with recurves and longbows.

I have used the Kathy Kelly and Neet.  Personally I like the Neet better but then again I do not keep the arrows in the quiver when I case the bow.  You can do it though.  My first Need quiver is pretty much toast after 15 years.  The foam padding has disolved and moves around in the case.  But heck, 15 years ain't bad for a case.  The Kathy Kelly cases are still going strong I just don't like the handle system and I have found my feathers take more of a beating out of the case than jammed in the Neet case.  Your milage may vary  :)

I have a 3 rivers. The brown one. You can keep your quiver on. I really like it.

I am a fan of the Kathy Kelly/ three rivers type

The style that allows the quiver/arrows to stay on I find a good choice for how I use the case.

Thanks for your opinions guy's , I would like to see some pics of the Black Widow ones where you can keep the arrows in the quiver inside the bag.Sounds like it would give the best protection.

I bought the neet case from 3 rivers last year,
the one with the arrow/misc compartment on the side. I bungy it on the front of my atv to go the
1.5 miles back to my hunting area. works great and the side compartment holds my small back quiver with arrows.

It looks just like the Neet bow case to me.

The only picture I can find is the one on the Black Widow website & the end where the fletches go seems to be a different shape to the top where as the Neet is the same on both ends? Photo is from Black Widows website so I hope they don't mind me using it.

Lyonel,

Here are some mor pics of the Black Widow case.  The bow in the pics is a 60" Black Widow PSA to give you a size reference.  It also holds my 62" Tall Tines with no problem.   The fiberglass piece runs in the black strip you can see sewn into the inside of the case and keeps the case held open so it doesn't contact your fletching. Hope these help.

I have the one from BW, I have been using it since 1999. It still works great.

I have the Neet Recurve Bow and Arrow Case with the Navajo II plaid on it. It's a pretty good case. It holds my MTM arrow case perfect, maybe too perfect as it's a really tight fit for the case.

Brookwood makes a heavy duty one that puts most to shame.

Thanks Aaron, those photos do help. Can you tell me are they lined on the inside or are they exposed foam? The Black Widow site also says it has an accessory pocket is this a small one or is it arrow box size?

The inside is exposed foam.  The case has a small pocket that is big enough to hold a spare string and a shooting glove or tab.  They sell another model that will hold a strung bow without quiver attached that has a pocket to hold an arrow box.  That one might be a better choice for a guy that doesn't use a bow quiver.  Good luck.
