Had our Great Lakes Longbow Invitational this weekend. What a great time! Aside from being a very family-friendly shoot that was an absolute blast, I also had plenty of time to talk with, and shoot bows from, Steve Turay of Northern Mist and Chuck Deshler of Two Tracks. Well, after shooting half of each of their racks, I ordered a Shelton from Steve and an Echo from Chuck!
Shot my first dished grip (on a Shelton), and while initially it felt odd the more time I spent with it the more I found I loved it! I kept coming back to that grip throughout the day, and decided that both ordered bows will be dished.
Who else likes a dished grip? Got some pics of yours?
God on ya man! Both of those bows are awesome. I love a straight grip, but a slight dish is truly satisfying as well. You will love those bows, both are very quiet, dead in the hand and offer surprising performance, as well as ridiculous smoothness!
Bob
Andrew, you're my hero, and I'm green eyed envious of your bow tally!
Never shot a dished grip, but my new bow has a very, very slight locator and I've come to like it much more than a pistol grip.
When I shoot that style of bow I like to have a dished grip. I have had Hills, Northern Mist, Jerry Hill and several others, but the ones that had a dished grip got shot more. The next classic style Hill longbow that I buy with have a dished grip.
I have come to prefer a dished grip, as well. You won't be sorry.
Like said above, I prefer a dished grip on my Hill bows. Due to the small hand that I have, a straight grip doesn't fit as well.
Congratulations on your purchase of some awesome bows! I used to own a HH Big Five with a dished grip that I liked. Good shooting.
My HH Cheetah has a slight dished grip and I like it a lot.
I also like Craigs Locator grip.
I never liked the idea of a dished grip until I handled Steve Turay's bows at Baltimore.....then I picked up a dished Schulz tembo. Love dished now (BTW John Schulz preferred a slight dish also - good campany to be in).
I prefer the the straight handle, never thought I would! Good to finally meet you at the GLLI! Can't wait to see the bows you ordered!
Steve's dished grip is awesome, along with his locator grip for the same reason. The straight is just to big for my hand to be consistent with it. I have one of his Sheldon's coming with a locator grip.
I'm a dished grip guy too. Straight is good but once I shot a dished one the whole 'grip thing' just clicked.
I can shoot both a straight or a dished grip.
I'd say it depends on just how dished it is... I prefer a slight dish over the deep dish.
That said, I guess straight would be my 1st choice.
God bless,Mudd
I agree, Mudd. Slight dish, nothing drastic. I'm like Rossco, straight is good, but when I settled into that slight dish the bow and I just meshed perfectly.

Straight or just slightly dished. Locator grips and Hill bows just don't work for me.
Nick, personally, I don't think they look right either. JMHO.
I love dished grips...did this one myself on a Shelton, 1/8" of dish.

Had Steve copy it for my Classic, His standard dish is 1/8"

Thanks for those pics, Westbrook! That's exactly what I tried on his Shelton and loved it! I'll try to remember 1/8" when I talk to Steve and Chuck again.
Andrew,
I like them a lot, works as a locator for me, the meat of my thumb fits right into it and it keeps my grip "heeled" as it should be.
Congrats on your new bow orders, you picked 2 dandies!
Eric
I love deep dish pizza. Slightly dished grips are pretty good too.
I have Hill bows with Straight, dished, and locator grips. I think I like the dish a bit more than the others, partly because it fits well with my small hands.
I like dished . Deep or slight makes little difrence to me . I like straight grips also ,but it seems I'm more picky about the size of the straight grip . I prefer a slightly smaller dia grip wich is odd since I have big hands . Just feels more comfortable to me.

My Tembo has a little more dish than the Redman:

This Tembo found me last week. It's the first bow I've owned with a dished grip and we are getting along just fine.

I prefer a dished grip on my Hill style bows. Fits me better.
I too like a dished grip, My Big Five has a slight dish 1/8.
I like the slight dish.
