Title: bear bow suggestion for small archer
Post by: captain caveman on August 11, 2013, 08:26:00 AM
My son is 12 and has worked his way up to a 37lb bow. Would like to get him into a 40 lb bow to make him legal to deer hunt here in Ohio.  What are your thoughts on bear kodiak magnum or supermag for small framed archers?

If he has a short draw length, I don't like them.  You lose too much of your powerstroke. I prefer bows w/ a low brace height if you have a draw under 27". Look at Maddog bows, he designs bows for us short draw folks. Just my $.02

I agree with prairie drifter. Just because a bow is short does not mean it is optimal for short draws. When my son was 12 he used a 62" recurve that at his 24" draw produced about 38# it was enough for him to take a hog. Get something that comes on early and low brace.

Good info he's shooting a 37lb at 24" st joe river long bow. I would assume he'd be at hunting weight drawing little longer than 24"
