Title: Vintage String and brace question
Post by: HighTecRedNeck on August 08, 2013, 08:12:00 AM
I hope I am putting this on the correct forum.

I picked up a vintage Wing gull and a have a lot of work to do to it as they covered it with a really bad camo job

. It is 64" long and 46#

What length should I order my new string and what should my BH be when I tune it ?

Thank you in advance

If you bow says AMO 64 then your string should be an AMO 64 which is actually 61" loop to loop.  As for brace height, I don't know.  Try starting around 7 1/2" and increase or decrease till it shoots quietly.  It's right when it's quiet, regardless of what "the book" says.

B-55 for the material, probably needs to be 60-60.5" (measured under tension).

Like Dave said, "the book" says AMO is 3" shorter than the bow length, but not all bows go by the book.

If anyone here has an old wing catalog or possibly a magazine ad,they some-times had the brace-heights listed on different models.
