Title: Arrows for 35# recurve
Post by: Ifrit617 on August 06, 2013, 02:16:00 PM
Hi guys,

I'm trying to tune my cousin's 35# recurve. He pulls a little past 29" so he is probably pulling around 37-38#. Bow is cut to center. Besides GT 1535 and CE 90 what shaft would you recommend? Overall arrow weight has to be at least 450 grains. What would you use? Carbon or aluminum? Or wood even? Input would be great.

You could try some 1916s around 30" with 145 gr points if he's looking for a heavier arrow. That should come out around 475 gr total.

I think you may find those GT 1535s hard to beat, though.

Yeah i might have to go with them. Neither of us are big fans of the fake wood grain though.

They come in black as well, if you shop around a bit.

Might want to take a look at Braveheart Archery for C.E. Predator shafts.

Easton Axis 600's all day long. Should be able to get 450 grains total arrow weight with combination of insert and point weight.  I'm shooting the 600's cut to 29.5 and about 220 grains up front out of my 44# Super Shrew Carbon Foam Classic Hunter.  They fly extremely well and penetrate great.  I shot two whitetails with 3 blade Kustom King Trailmakers with that set-up last fall with no troubles.

Try some 1716s or maybe 1816s if you're interested in shooting aluminums.

15-35's with 145gr tip at that length should be right on the money.

Well, you are definitely right. I don't see them either. They do offer a .600 spine arrow in the Velocity series, though.

The 1535's only come in wood grain. They may be slightly stiff, but with the extra weight up front and full length arrow it would be a good starting point.

We also cary the CX predators. The 2040 would be the shaft of choice for those.

Okay new question, will 1916's work for this bow or should I get the 1816's? Also what point size does the 1916's use?

I use 1916 with 125fp and they are 29.5 length and my Bob Lee is 38# @ 28 and I draw 28.5. I get good arrow flight. The point size for 1916 is 5/16.

I just set a friend up with 1916 cut to 30" with a 100 gn point shooting from a cut to center Grizzly. He draws a little over 28" fight is perfect.   :archer2:

Ifrit617, I have a few extra 1916s around. If you'd like, I can send you a couple to play with. If they show a bit stiff, you could go the 1816 route, or talk to Big Jim about the 2040s.
