Title: Redwood burl
Post by: TexasStick81 on August 05, 2013, 02:48:00 PM
I'm coming up soon for a new bow, does anyone have any pics of redwood burl veneers?  I'm having difficulty finding any good images online but I've been told it might be what I'm looking for.

Thanks,

Zane

I don't think I have ever seen that. I bet it is is really nice though! Pretty much any burled wood is cool looking.

Hey, Zane, did you ever finish up those ground blinds?

Hey Bisch,

I am about 3/4 of the way through.  My office neighbor makes artificial turf lawns and putting greens, they gave me scraps and I've been using them.  It's a tough one man job though, moving a bit slow.  PM me your number and I'll text you some pics of what I've got.

Google "burl source" (not a sponsor, but a good supplier of knife handle material and veneers for guitars). I use a fair amount of stabilized redwood burl. You can see quite a bit of it there. Pretty stuff.

I had a good bit of it but cant find any photos of it under glass.  I will tell you that it turns a very dark red and looks really good under the glass.

That looks really neat, does anyone have pics under glass?  I'm curious if it's more of an orange red or darker red typically.

Here's some. Not under glass, but resin stabilized and with a couple wipes of tung oil over it.

I saw a bow Big Jim made with redwood burl.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  Try contacting him, he may have a pic of it.

I'll see if I can post some pics from Pammike tonight, his veneers are beautiful.  Big Jim is making the bow but doesn't have a pic but should have one done in the next few day so hopefully I'll be able to see one from him.
