What part of your gear, scouting, shooting, blind/treestand placement or location do you plan on changing for the better? :campfire:
Rob
New Palmer Classic recurve!
Hunting from the ground like my man Rob!
I have several new things going on this year. Earlier in the year I made the switch from split finger to 3 under. Finally after a few months I believe it is going to pay off. My shooting seems to have gotten better. I also got in a club that has 6000 acres. This is a lot of new land to roam around on. I am sure it will be an interesting season this year!
If I ever get my ghillie done, I will be using it!
Build and hunt out of a ground blind... hopefully in the next month or so.
Ditch the wheels completely.......for the whole season this time.
That's a big step for me. Wish me luck. Haha
Don't miss this time and harvest a whitetail.
Use trail cams to maximize my hunting efforts.
#1 Will only shoot Black Widow recurves from this day forward, they're the best, brand loyalty to my MO friends.
#2 I think my stands need to be a little higher, not crazy about heights but it might help me see some deer that might have unbeknownst to me been busting me.
#3 Stop over hunting spots, get off the home place & hunt some new spots, even if that means camping alone. Not that afraid of the boggie man anyhow.
More campfires with friends!
This will be my sons first year bowhunting with me. Can't wait!
-Jeremy :coffee:
Try not to set up in the places where the critters ain't.
Way up on the ridge with my new bow. I used to hunt the middle of the ridge but this year I'm getting away from everyone and going far up. I hunt public land.
I have a new ladder stand (never had a store-bought ladder stand!) and have just placed it in an area I scouted last year that showed good deer activity.
I'm hoping to break my streak of bad luck and bring one down with the widow this year.
Spend more time in the woods with my longbow. I may not pick up a gun this year either.
1. Hunt more from the ground, especially since my back went out while on the tractor this morning and I can't sit or stand comfortably as I type this.
2. Not to again miss the same deer from the same stand, standing in the same place on 2 separate days
3.Rely more on natural camo (plaids, etc.) and less on commercial camo.
4.Get blood on my Hill Cheetah.
Hunting this fall with a 1960 Bear Grizzly and some period Razorheads. If I make it work, it will be the oldest bow I've shot anything with. Might plant a fall food plot, too.
Getting more mobile. Last year our little group of 5 killed 8 deer, Only one from an old permanent stand.
I have a timbertall climber, a millinium loc-on with three blocks and sets of sticks, and a Gorilla silverback scout with LW sticks for the long treks.
I am going to try hunting from the ground for the entire season. I hunted from the ground a few times last year and I had so much fun I want to try to take a deer from eye level.
1.Try even harder to get my wife her first shot! But we are hunting a lot lower elk density area this year so that may be a chore to do.
2. If I get out to hunt deer, be quicker to move the stand if it ain't working where it is.
Going to hunt out of hang on stands more this year. Got one of the new Muddy Vantages should be here tomorrow and that will give me two full size to hang in good spots so I can have them at the ready anytime and one real lightweight..Loc On Limit and Woodpecker Drill to stay up with the fresh sign.
Will still use Lone Wolf Climber and Summit Open Shot also. I'm in the process now of rigging out a new Black Diamond Couloir Climbing Harness that only weighs 12ozs. and will use it in place of heavier Muddy Tree Harness I've been using. Trying to lighten my load I have to pack in every hunt as much as possible.
Also be hunting some with my new Black Widow PTF the early part of season most likely. That's all in accordance to how I recover from having my appendix removed in an emergency operation last night. Can't shoot bow for at least 3wks and one Dr. said 6 so will have to see.
I'm going to take 3 days off from work so I can actually get out hunting! My leave slip is in and approved!
Would love to actually kill something this year! LOL! I'm gonna try to be in better shape to go further into the "mountains" here in OK on my bear huntin' vacation. Come on October!!!!!
Also working harder on my form and getting away from a swing draw, so that I can make better shots from different starting positions. So I don't blow it this year, on the unlucky critter that walks out in front of me without cover between us.
Go hunting!!!!!
Missed the last three years
better?....well, not sure if it's better but I'm using my 1st BBO and going to use bamboo planting stake arrows...
I'm gonna take the first good shot opportunity that I get, instead of waiting for that "perfect" shot. I could have taken at least three shots last year but didn't because I thought that I was going to get a better shot. Mind you, every time was broadside or quartering away, 20 yards or under. I just thought that a few steps closer, or a bit more wide open shot was gonna happen, and it didn't. I never dropped the sting once on a deer last year.
Gonna be using Magnus 4-blade Stingers for the first time this year. I believe they're a very well made head.
Gonna move my favorite stand location more off the trail this year. Got busted too many times last season from where I had it placed.
And, hopefully kill something this year! Gotten skunked for the last couple of years.
But, as long as my family, friends, and myself stay safe and don't get hurt, then it will be a successful season. Always wear your safety harness when up in a tree!
1. Increased arrow weight 75 grains to 554.
2. Changed hunting bow to TT Titan.
3. Increase draw weight 3.5 pounds.
4. Increase effective range by 10 yards.
5. Hang 2 new stands deeper in my hunting area.
6. Hunt a different species of "deer" in Alberta. I hope to replace the snowshoes hanging above the mantle with something far larger and exciting.
7. 15% less of me by Oct. 31-10% to go.
All but 5,6, & 7 are already in the bag.
More changes this season than any since I returned to curves in 2010.
I will spend my 44th year bowhunting in the trees and stick to the Sika Gear I switched to two years ago.
This year ill be shooting wood for the first time, and due to back issues, I might be on the ground.
Spend less time in the woods.
I hate the idea, but know the reality of sharing a vehicle. Hope I can maximize my enjoyment during my few stints out.
Going to Missouri is a huge saving grace that will allow me to hunt for a whole week.
Hunt more, hunt from the ground and take my first trad deer. It's been a long dry spell.
1. I am going to have more time to hunt this year for once! That's going to help a lot.
2. More time spent on water holes for elk.
3. More time camping with friends and family. I tend to spend too much solo time hunting.
Hopefully, just spend more time hunting..... gear is almost all the same, going to use aluminum arrows this year.
Hopefully this year I'll be back in the woods! It's been too long
I'm going to actually try to be lazy this year and hunt totally different. I'm going to hunt spots close to roads, the places guys walk by. I have been hunting all over and it's not producing. Everyone seems to walk back in now. So I'm hunting close. The over looked places.
Not sure if it's for the better yet but, hunting from a tree seat instead of my usual spot and stalking.
I'll be using footed carbon arrows with a higher FOC % and higher overall weight. I'll be getting a new pair of wool bibs for added warmth and new boots because unfortunately mine are dead. Other than that, I am just hoping to take more game and spend more time with family in the woods.
wear my safty harness evertime i hunt from a tree.
Hunt less from a tree and more from the ground. Hunt more often and for all those things I used to chase but lost the time to do so. Geese and ducks with a bow, small game with a bow. Trying to hunt several states this year.
ChuckC
Nothing. Try not to walk as far and sit longer maybe.RC
Kill an elk......
Shooting the new Stalker Stickbow, no missing deer this year, and I removed the shooting rail from my climber to open it up just a little bit. Everything else has been working for me just fine!

Rob
I'll be using my Torges Tree Seat in a spot I could never get any other seat to work...
Bush in a bag.
Im going crazy right now
First I cant decide whether to hunt from a tree or build a brush blind.
Secondly my shooting is bad this year. Cant focus and am inconsistant.
I believe Im over thinking it.
I may just small game hunt at this point and relax.
Work less , Hunt more
I think for me the main thing I'm going to do is enjoy the moment more and not have some crazy goal that I'm stressed over all the time.
Some backpack hunting trips and campfires would be nice too.
Rob
I'm going to be hunting over a Wicked Wick if I can get it worked out. There isn't a tree where I want one so I have to rig something up.
I like your plan too Rob!
Aim and concentrate on a spot lower on the animal so i stop missing all the deer i shoot at. :knothead:
gonna hunt from the ground as much as i can. i bought the Huntmore chair, and it's great. i like lock-ons too, but i'm over climbing stands. too noisy and too much effort for the reward. also, just got a new bow, which i didn't expect to have until January. also plan to try Simmons broadheads this year.
Just set up a new stand yesterday , should be good
I'm going to try my luck at primitive camping while hunting for a full ten days. Never have been afforded the privilege of spending that much time in the woods but being laid off has its perks, I suppose.
1. Hunt small game with my primitive gear.
2. Go back to shooting naturally and forget all of the madness shooting a tradbow has become.
Miss most of, if not all, of the season :( . After a skunk filled bow season last year I'm losing this one so I can go to university. Maybe these next two years will go by fast...
1. I would like to share a few more trad hunts with other fellas. Still prefer solo but even a hermit likes occasional company.
2. I will be hunting with a strap on quiver for the 1st time.
3. Half of my hunting will be urban and the other a mixture of farms and big woods. Usually hunt farms most.
4. Not traditional archery but I'll be hunting waterfowl and upland birds a helluva lot more than the the last 6 or 7 years since I took up traditional bows. It'll cost me some bow hunting time but its my sons preferred game and that matters a whole lot more to me than what weapon Im toting.
5. Hunt 5 times more than last year. With selling my house and moving, my season was devastated. Lucky if I hunted 10 times.
I have a new Asbell wool pullover for camo this year, and have a a Northern Mist Baraga on order...hope its here before season starts. Those are the only changes so far, still have the same great friends and camp to enjoy, along with Mother Nature in all her splendore....(hope to be able to sit longer in the stand too) :biglaugh:
Shoot more :)
I'm going to take the first good shot I get. My freezer is empty

:readit: yeah that! ^^^^^
Going elk hunting and changed broad head and arrow weight
Going to ground. Recurve and Walkstool. Never the same spot twice. Unless, I am on to something.
New Simmons Tiger Shark heads this year.
If I have a good setup and opportunity I'm going to take it. Last season I had a good opportunity that I tried to make a perfect opportunity and wound up with nothing...not this time.
First trad only season.
I hope to step back in time some and enjoy the woods more, using my older bows, arrows, broadheads, clothing and use natural ground blinds.I know it's harder from the ground but for me it's more exciting eye to eye. :archer:
Going to try hunting other places most hunters wouldn't think about. Small weeded draws, and small timbers out in the middle of nowhere. Been watching a very nice buck and a few does hanging in a weeded draw since last month. Should be fun trying to outwit them. Also have a cane arrow with a knapped head that's wanting baptized.
Finally really hunt after too long in hospitals and doctor's offices.
I'm going to be hunting more on the ground this year.
First time in history for an elk season close to my home so going to hunt elk close to home
Still trying to get fully mobile after a hip replacement, so I don't know what I'm going to be able to do. BUT, I think I'll use the bow only.
There I said it! Now I have to do it. Bow or gun season, bow only.
Also try for a bear. Good deer population on our land and now a bear has been around.
That would be too fine if my first trad kill was a bear. Our place is called Bearwood Farms...
I usually go away on DIY hunts but I burned up my vacation working on my farm. I am going to be hunting whitetail on the ground this year locally.
I can wait to hunt them again without a tree stand, going back to the beginning.
Good luck this year.
Gil
Gonna' adopt a little of the old Zen martial arts philosophy and "Try Softer."
Kingsnake
Have success, in deer and elk woods
Whatever I do, I am gonna do it left handed this year.
ChuckC
This year i'm hunting with my Howatt Hi Speed and Predator II CE shafts. And shoot a big buck! LOL
I'm going to start carrying my rangefinder, mainly to predetermine yardages to shooting lanes. Never felt right carrying an electronic piece while trad bowhunting, but what the heck, it may make the difference on a hit or miss.
Going to try a few new areas and expand my possibilities too.
Hunt Traditional. Since I gave up the compound last feb. didnt get a chance to hunt with the recurve. This will be my first season and I am pumped!!
I turn 53 this year and I will be hunting for the first time.
(Ever)
Good for you Wolfshead!
Have fun.
Happy hunting Wolfshead!
Hey Wolfshead... better late than never!
You are lucky in that you have all the new experiences waiting... all the firsts and the new found knowledge. It's going to be an exciting year for ya, no doubt.
Well I trying two different things this year, been reading up a lot on smoking cloths etc for natural cover scent. Will be using this method for a bit to see, both spots I hunt have wood burners around. Another is switching back to wooden arrows after being away for about 4 years,
Good luck to everyone
I'm going to try out my home-made ghillie suit and hunt a little from the ground.
Found a new to me travel corridor that's been right under my nose. I love how sneaky some Bucks can be. I plan on doing more ground hunting this year again, but the hopeful" big Buck spot" will require a tree stand, minimal hunting, and good timing. I'm stoked! Now that I think about it, I have 3 new promising spots to hunt. I'll have less time to hunt this year, but optimistic.
1)Not wait and wait and wait for the perfect shot until all shots are gone.
2)Not pass on big wet does.
3)Sit much stiller for longer times.
4) Not wear Bogs boots and freeze my feet off from the sweat. Wearing leather Irish Setters.
5)Hunt more from my ground blind.
lighter draw weight
I purchased a couple of Ground Hunter Seats from Big Jim, so my son and I will be hunting from the ground. The last several years we have hunted from ladder stands and when the deer show they always looks to see if you are there. It's strange how we can get into a rut of hunting the same way. With the new seats we will be able to move to adjust to the wind and we will be able to change stand locations without having to move the stand.

I should really have not forgotten that I'm taking my son with me, since in spirit he can be with me anywhere. I'd never give up those visits, those stays and the times we blasted well moved into the hospital. He didn't last long enough to get to introduce to the bow, but now his spirit will be with me, most likely pulling on my fletching because it looks edible. Everything was something to chew for him, and I wouldn't begrudge my arrows some slobber in the field. Might make them fly better.
halfseminole, My God give you and yours peace and harmony. Very best of luck to your season.
God Bless, Knawbone
I finally gave up the wheels. Going trad exclusively.
