Title: Muzzy Phantoms
Post by: Recurve50 LBS on August 03, 2013, 12:38:00 PM
A friend gave me 4 Muzzy Phantom broadheads with the bleeder blades. I want to sharpen the blades because they are not even close to being what I like to call hunting ready. How does one go about taking these heads apart so I can sharpen the edges with my KME knife sharpener?

Very carefully! They are a pain in the rear to take apart.

I've watched the video 40 times and I still can't get them apart easily. I bought the sharpner Muzzy developed for these heads. It works pretty good and eliminated a lot of frustration.....the sharpner is named Redi Edge on the Muzzy website.

I took mine apart with pliers, not easy, headache.  After a couple, you get the hang of it.  Be careful!  I thought I was gonna break them at first.

Thanks guys for all your input. Chumster the video helped big time, but I could not get the bleeders back in, bent the heck out of all of them. Just another epic fail.

Tried sharpening them with my KME. I sharpen everything so easy I get hair popping results in short order......except with these heads. Epic fail #2

Tried putting together some new arrows. Crown dipped, chopped new 5" parabolic and guess what....epic fail #3 for the day.

I am now officially DONE!

Screw the head into a arrow then back it off 1/4 in slide bleeder down pull top of bleeder to the side and screw arrow up to head forcing the bleeder up

They can be a pain to figure out but once you get the hang of it they get easier.

I shot them for a while and just didn't have all that much problem getting bleaders out and back in.  There was a bit of a trick to it.  I know I did the partly threaded in a shaft thing.  I was not the best at getting them sharp so went to three blade heads. They flew real well and make nice holes.

I will admit, the video makes it look much easier than it is

I bought some of the same heads this winter and thought I'd check them out after reading this thread. Very disappointed with the sharpness out of the package. Put my steel to them and had them popping hairs in no time though...both the main blades and the bleeders. Try sharpening them in place with a steel?
