Title: ? about DMT broadhead sharpner...
Post by: MikeW on September 03, 2007, 10:56:00 AM
To start with I'm a big fan of DMT's stones and this looks like a really nice sharpener, especially for the money. It does 2, 3 & 4 blade heads.

A couple questions I have are, Can the stones be changed out?

And from the picture on the web site it looks like the front of the broadhead would never get touched. They look too far apart. I don't know if this is just a bad picture example or what. I can't tell if you can move the stones closer or not?

I just emailed the company and asked them the same 2 questions but I thought I'd ask here and see if there are any users here and what they thought of it.
TIA

I tried it and did not care for it. Mine has a gap between the stones that I could not get rid of. I prefer to use the DMT Aligner type sharpener for 2 blade heads. This is the type that clamps the blade in place and diamond stone is drawn across it at the angle you pick from several available. It also works great for knives. I got mine from knivesplus.com.
The three blade Wensels I sharpen on the files and DMT stones as shown in the Wensel site. Knivesplus also has a leather stopping block they sell that is great for putting the final edge on a knife or broadhead. It's listed on their site. Jim.

Yes it can be adjusted to close the gap. I have one that came with stones and I removed them and put on the diamond style. Works ok for me. Hap

What holds the stones on? It came with stones?
You sure it's a DMT..I don't see them selling stones anywhere only diamond stones.

If you're sharpening 4 blades the gap is kind of big. If you're doing 2 blades you can close it together to sharpen all the way to the point. The diamond stones are held on with double sided tape. i've had mine close to 10 years, i think.

http://www.sportsandrectec.com/xblock/default.asp  here is a link to a new sharpening system that uses the same principles as the DMT and TRUANGLES; these systems are both good but hopefully the X-BLOCK system is an improvement. Has anybody tried it yet?

I've had mine for at least 15 years and they didn't come with the diamonds then. The stones were put on with glue if I remember right. Hap
