Title: '67 Bear Grizzly
Post by: GANGGREEN on July 31, 2013, 01:31:00 PM
I recently traded with a member here for a Bear Grizzly.  I sent photos and the serial number into Bear and they told me that they believe it's a 1967 model but they couldn't be sure without getting their hands on it.

I'm not done fiddling with the bow as far as brace height, arrow choices, shelf material, etc. but so far I like it and shoot it fairly well.  Is there anything peculiar or specific to the '67 or similar age bows that I should know?

IMHO its one of the best years of a grizzly bow.

I like a 7 3/4 inch brace height.  A rug rest is fine.

OK, thanks.  I have one of the "original" rests on order.  I kept bumping the brace height up and it got better and better but I topped out at roughly 7 5/8" before I started to run out of string.  I'll get everything put together and figure it all out.

I had a very nice '67...foolishly sold it.  The one bow I've had that I really regret selling.  Great little bow.

You should try one of Traps feather rests on it. I use them on all my bows now and they work better than anything i have tried before.

Forgive me but I'm not sure who Trap is or what his rests look like.  Is he a sponsor?  Is there a link?  I'd definitely give them a try if they work well for others.

He is a member here, Trap is his nic. The feather rest is what came on most bear bows from i think 59 through the early 60's. Trap makes repo's of them. They give a nice soft cusion for the arrow and i think makes it easier to tune the bow than shooting off a rug rest.I dont have a way to post a pic right now but maybe someone else will see this and put one up for you.

Sadly, the picture doesn't show and I can't get it to open.  I know what you mean by a feather rest though, I used to have them on some of my old Shakespeares.  I'll definitely keep my eyes open and try some different things because I'm enjoying the Bear and think I'm going to make it my hunting bow this fall.

You may well be just fine with a rug rest, many people like them. When i have used them though, i always had to put a match stick under them to make them work right for me. Really no need to order a rug rest though. You can get the heavy duty velcro and use that, its just as good and i think lasts longer than the rug rest stuff they sell.
