Title: North Country Newbie
Post by: Fauxinawan on July 31, 2013, 12:32:00 PM
Hello, I just moved to NY, North Country from OConus and am looking to learn how to target and ultimately hunt with a recurve. I currently work on Ft. Drum and hope to get a place to start practicing and pick some tips-- before I start target practicing at the house. Any info, tips for forums, etc, would be appreciated.  Tobin.

Welcome to the forum, Tobin. I'd start by finding an archery shop in your new area. There are plenty of NY members here who can hopefully point you to shops also.

There is Ferrari's Archery over in Carthage and I believe he has some trad knowledge.  Atkins archery is also up there, I believe they are in Watertown.  It is at least a place to start.

If you do not mind a drive, check out bowguru.com.  Ian's shop is in Holland Patent.

I'm in Massena during the summers (since 1999) and belong to a couple clubs that have an archery sub-club.  There are also several shoots up this way...one of my favorites is in Saranac/Tupper Lake area.  if you wanted to cruize up to Massena, I would be happy to meet up with you and help you get started.  I also have my "traveling" bow-making shop setup that I can show you...just gave a seminar a couple weeks ago.  Send me a PM or email (dinorocks at gmail) if you would like.
