I just moved in from the dark side. Last week I picked up a Whispersitck and now I'm hooked on trad.
Been shooting compounds for 20 years and all it took was 6 arrows to step into the light.
My wife will not be pleased....lol
Welcome Bruce!
Welcome :campfire:
Welcome!
Welcome. Enjoy the journey.
Welcome bro! :wavey:
Welcome There is no finer archery than traditional the more you stay the more questions will arise.
Welcome from Texas! Let's not call it the "Dark Side". It's more like the "Whole lot of technology and not much fun side". Lol You did come to the right place, these guys are great.
I am going to have a lot of questions. I ordered some books on trad. I would hate to develope bad habits. The form side I can get through but I am sure I will need some advise on arrows and spine.
Thank you folks
Welcome, and enjoy!
Welcome from Florida.

I will be heading to Ocala on the 9th
You already found out our big secret, This is more fun.

Hi there-Hap
The most fun you can have with clothes on! ha I have a whisperstik voodoostik and love it, really smokes an arrow. Welcome!
Welcome aboard. There is no better place for a new trad archer, so when you have questions, ask them, and smarter guys than myself will answer them!
You figured out rather quickly that your wife will probably not be pleased.
Don't get hooked on the desire to try them all. It can REALLY aggravate the problem :D
My wife has been going balistic for years. I have a bad habit of buying bows on a whim. Now she saw my trad bow and says " If you want another one you will have to sell off some of your other bows "....lol
I have a couple Hoyts, Mathews and an Elite I will be selling.
Archery is some kind of sickness that takes over your soul as my wife puts it.
I usualy reply, it's either archery or fast women, which do you prefer hun.
welcome

Now that's funny right there! I don't care who ya are! :wavey:
Welcome Bruce! I think you'll find TradGang to be a great place to learn, talk, and waste time, and I know you'l find Trad archery to be a great adventure.
As an aside, I'm especially happy to welcome a fellow engineer to tradgang! I believe there are quite a few of us on here.
Lastly, I'd like to personally invite you to check out the Bowyers Bench. It's not for everyone, but alot of us here on TG like to venture into making our own bows .... your wife might be happier, at leat temporarily until she realizes you spend thousands or dollars on shop tools instead or sometimes in addition to bows. Besides, any self respecting redneck has to try and make everything themselves ...
Enjoy!
Now tools I have a plenty ! full wood shop. Heck I even have some antique draw knives. I was already looking at the threads on the self bows. Seems a good project AFTER hunting season....lol
Welcome :)
Welcome from Kentucky!

Welcome from Michigan.. :wavey: I came from the wheelie world 2 years ago. Now I have 3 bows and sleep on the couch with 1 eye open...lol You're gonna like this forum.
Welcome :campfire:
WELCOME to The LIGHT Bro!!
Welcome, I agree lots more fun.
Welcome from the deep South!
Welcome. I dont think you will miss the other bows as much as you may think.
Welcome to the Light Side, you're gonna have some fun.
I am alreay having a blast. I watched a bunch of video's on form. It has helped quite a bit. At 20 yards I am at about a 16 inch spread. Not sure how good that is for a noob but not good enough for hunting this season with my trad bow. I fletched up some of my carbon 4560's and some 55-75's. I am just not sure which spine to use so I figured I was shoot them and see what happens. I have a 42# whisperstick, I guess my trad draw is about 27" ( 28 on a compound )
I got the wife good yesterday, she was watching me fletch some feathers and said " Oh brother, whats next with you. A spear and a loin cloth.
I told her that was one heck of an idea and I would have to give it a try and asked her to find me a good leather loin cloth
Welcome to the club...hold on to your wallet...lol...
Ok guys here come the noob questions. I picked up a Pearson Cougar 40#. Going to head to my friends house as he has a scale to see what it really is.
I checked out all the spine charts. My arrowns will be about 28" or longer if needed.
I want to start off with aluminum so I don't go blow a bunch of money until I know what spine, lenght and tip weight.
So let's say 29" arrow, 41# at a 27" draw
What different spines should I pick up ? I can pick them up for next to nothing as everyone around here uses carbons and wheelies
