Title: elk arrow weight?
Post by: portugeejn on September 03, 2007, 01:26:00 AM
Well, I am going to hunt elk in a couple weeks, seriously, for the first time.

Here is the setup.  Martin Savannah 55@28" (my draw length is 27"), Douglas Fir arrows spined 55-60#, 28" long, 125 grain Zwickey Eskimos, 5" shield, total arrow weight 510-530 grains.

I probably won't shoot past 15 yards or so, maybe 20.

Any glaring problems?  Thanks for the input.

Good luck on the hunt! I think you'll do fine.

You have lots of bow and lots of arrow weight to do the job. I prefer a heavier arrow, but would not hesitate to use your set up. Just keep out of the big bones no matter what weight bow or arrow you use.
