Title: Bushnell Backtrack GPS
Post by: ksbowman on July 26, 2013, 10:09:00 PM
What is your experience with one and do they direct you back on your original track or back to marked home? Do you trust yours? The Bushnell write up is a little unclear.

Back to home.  My uncles have been using some the last couple of years.  They found the accuracy to be a little lacking but could get you close enough to find the truck.

I've used mine some and my bear hunting buddy uses his quite a bit up in Canada.  It will take you back to your marked point...  as the crow flies. I've used mine for that aspect alone. I don't think that it will do anything else.

Do I trust mine???? yes, but I still take a compass reading and cross check them.  I have noticed that if you are in  the big woods (Canada), it takes it a little while to get itself calibrated.

Hope this helps!

I've got one and I like it ,..... When it can pick up satalite signal. That is my biggest complaint that it often can't get signal.

Exactly. I have the model prior to this one and it blinks for quite awhile before you get a signal the first time you turn it on in the woods. However, it is a really handy unit for the cash. I'm going to use it in my out of state hunts this season. It will definitely get you back to the car, just don't depend on it totally.

I have the 2nd gen model.  Have to agree.  It is awesome once it gets locked on.  Also much more accurate than the 1st gen models.

I have one that is about three years old and have used it a few times to go back and find a marked spot, blood trail, truck ect ect. I have had good experience with it but a few times though, it was far enough off that I could not " totally " trust it especially in really thick stuff. Mine can mark three individual spots and then has an electronic compass. I have not had too many issues getting locked on a satellite.

Slow, doesn't work well in tight quarters.
