Title: Broadhead or Field Tip weight for Herritage 150's
Post by: purple heat on July 26, 2013, 10:46:00 AM
I recently ordered a dozen Carbon Express Herritage 150 shafts. They are fletched with 5" shield cut feathers and arrow wraps . Regular alluminum inserts are installed and they are cut to 28.5 " . I shoot a Black Widow PCH 54# at 28".  Can anyone tell me the proper grain head weight i should use to obtain optimum arrow flight ?

Do you have various weight field point? If it was me I would leave one bare shaft for tuning then go from there. Do a search for bare shaft tuning or in one of the Master of Bare Bow DVD Ken Beck does an awesome job explaining it.

Maybe somebody can get you close, but I think you will probably need to experiment.

I have a new to me Blacktail recurve that is about 54 @ my draw length. I  am shooting CE 150's cut to 28.75" , but need  over 200 grns up front. I get there by using  50 or 100 grn brass inserts depending on what weight heads I am using.

We'll need a little more info like if you're using weighted inserts(50 or 100) but basically if your arrows are hitting left add more weight, if they're hitting right take weight away until you hit right down the middle.

I have just about the exact same set up as you do. 28.5" 150s shot out of a 55# grizzly. I tuned them last week with 4" parabolic feathers and wraps with the factory aluminum inserts and found regular 100 grain field points and broadheads to fly the best. 125 grain points didn't do bad either. For me at least any weight above 125 gave me to weak arrow spine.

Not sure. I shoot cx heritage 250 with standard inserts cut to 30.75" with 145gr bh/points out of a 3 piece modern longbow 54#@28" drawn 29"

At 28.5"s you will need at least 250 and I dare say 275 would be perfect if you draw 28"s. 1/2" is not much for broadhead clearance, field points will be fine but BH might be tough. Shawn
