Years of wrestling and grapling left both my shoulder with SLAP tears. For that reason I keep bows at 45#, 50#, 54#, 55#, 60#, 63# all rated at 28" but I draw 29". Mind you some of these are $75 buck bows.
Well this week was one of those weeks where the left shoulder was angry. But all was not lost. I pulled out the 50# Griffin and worked on shot sequence and the mental aspects of the archery game. I actualy felt that it was a more productive week of shooting than most. Who else keeps a light bow around for injuries and working on problem areas?
I do.
Ya wanna see where your form is lacking, shoot a light bow, especially, with stiff arrows.
I do.

I do also. After having had a shoulder problem a few years ago and being unable to find a light weight lefty, I ordered light limbs for one of my takedowns.
I have limbs from 35-55 pounds for my Horne Combo Hunters in 5 lb increments. They are great for working on form, use at home or when I just don't feel like pulling heavier.

Look at my sig. I don't have shoulder issues but since day one have either had more than one set of limbs or more than one bow so I can train/workout and switch it up.
I definitely do. Most of my bows are fairly light anyway- 45-50 #s, but I have a 33# longbow that is the greatest tool for form work. It quickly points out any error in form; especially a bad release. It also makes it easy to feel a perfect release.
Traxx hit the idea squarely on the head.
Keep a 40# recurve around for much the same purpose, not pretty, only cost me $3 at a garage sale, but works great for my needs....
I kept my 30# Ben Pearson colt around and it came in handy when I was recouping from this shoulder surgery.
Yup I have a Spirit longbow that is 40#, Widow PLV 51# and a Widow LAG 58# all rated at 28". I draw 30.5"
I don't like losing expensive arrows and broadheads. I get complete passthru's with my 40lb bows. I see no reason for my passthru arrows to skip away any farther into the brush.
I had to borrow a #35 lb bow recently from a friend to retrain my arm after breaking it. Glad for that. I shoot light bows to begin with though my bow is only #44 lbs.
I have a set of 45# limbs for my Bear Takedown. They came in handy after 4 months of no shooting due to hip replacement.
I have a few light weight bows...a 24# Shakespeare Sierra, a 30# Browning Monarch, and a a set of 42# Samick BF Extremes for my Titan riser. My "normal" shooting weights are 49#-53#
We have everything from25# to 55# at or house we have like seven boltdown bows and then two ILF risers of different lengths with five different weight limbs. Pretty good variety to help keep wife shooting if her shoulder isn't up to her hunting bow or a light bow to teach lessons or work on my own form or have a backup bow. To the point now though, if I buy one, then I let one go!
I keep a 20# Little Bear, 30# Browning Spartan, 38# Pearson Colt, 35# Black Bear warf, 35# Bear Tamerlane. I use these for NFAA field shooting, rehabbing after surgery, teaching others to shoot a bow, grandkids bows, teaching kids to shoot.
i almost destroyed my elbow shooting a heavy bow and since i went down in weight no more elbow pain
No, but I gotta get me a lighter one after all these comments.
Dang, have to buy another bow...
I have a 38# Bob Lee take down with 46# recurve and 47# longbow limbs. I shoot the 38# a lot and will switch to heaver limbs 4 to 6 weeks before hunting.
Have one in particular that I step back to when working thru form issues.
Fortunately, I have not had to recede due to injury.
I also have one and work on form with it nearly every day. It my form gets weak the light bow really points it out.
I have 7 bows now and they range from 40#'s to 47#'s. I am hoping to work my way back up to at least 50#'s so that I can hunt elk again. Here in Oregon it's a 50# minimum for Rosies.
I'm looking at building a new bow for bad shoulder days. Have a brachial plexus tear and severe damage, all irreparable, to my left shoulder. Bow I'm shooting is somewhere in the 40 pound range, but I really need something in the 30s for those extra bad days. Must be nice to keep so many bows-I have the one I made, one being built for me, and that's it-I guess I should get to making shavings.
