Does anyony know of a treestand maf. that makes a climber that uses the old blade typye tree gripper? A friend od mine fell yesterday scout when the cable snap, I dont want says which manf. but its a popular one. Gangers becareful that stand was brand new, this is the second type accident in 3 years in my area. 1 was a belt type climber and the fellow broke a vertbra this was a cable type he broke his leg but will be fine. They were both well under the limit of the stands. Scared me I'm looking for the old style stand with the blades anyone?
Thanks for the heads-up.
It has been proven time and time again that the old blade type are much and I mean much more dangerous to use than the new type. It is just a freak thing that these two accidents occured. I would still feel much safer using either stand from the manufacturers you will not mention than the old blade type. Shawn
... and Shawn knows a thing or two about treestand accidents!.
Right? ;)
I have a WAR stand by Deerhunter and it works very well.http://www.deerhunterstands.com/HTML/DisplayCategories.asp?step=2&catCode=64
You can always find used Summits, the older ones with the steel blade.
Well not really, I fell 23 ft. when a step broke right at the screw in threads. It really is not the fall that hurts, it is the sudden stop at the bottom! :knothead: :bigsmyl: Shawn
That's why i love blind hunting !
Man people are hitting the ground already I haven't even got a stand up yet.
Serousily hope everyone is alright I use a prussic not and what ever length I may need for the tree I get in.
If I climb one of them that the woodpeckers gave up on a long time ago. The rope will reach the ground right to the ground.
I almost always have at least a belt and rope hooked getting in and out of the stands.
If you haven't already done so do yourself a favor and google the "Prussic Knot" the knot easily slides up and down the rope.
Min. I use a 2" nylon belt and a light aluminum caribiner that I always wear with rope and prussics hanging there with stands.
