Title says it all. What recurve just brings the most satisfaction to you. One surely trumps all others for smoothness, accuracy, quietness, speed or whatever blows your hair back.
Which one does it for ya?
Wes Wallace Mentor, everthing about this recurve blows my hair back.
I just put the static tip limbs back on my RER LXR...there is some magic in those limbs...I shoot that bow well with the longbow limbs, but I shoot it even better with the recurve limbs
DDave
Can't wait to get my new LXR in February. I'm sure that will be the last bow I ever buy.
I have limited experience with recurves, but, as of right now, it would be my Jack Kemph Kwyk Styk.
That may change after I get my hands on the Eaglrwing Archery Talon II I have on order.
Second would be just about any vintage K-Mag.
I'm a longbow shooter. I also have lot of bows both longbows, selfbows, and recurves. I'll shoot a recurve but very rarely hunt one. My main hunting bow as of lately is a Morrison ILF 13" metal riser with longbow limbs. I just traded a recurve for a set of Morrison Max1 recurve limbs which shoot great and maybe my first Hunting recurve since the 80's!
Toss up between my RER XR or Arroyo. They each have their own feel but are so nice to shoot.
Since the first week in May it is my 58", 48#, all bocote Tall Tines. I've been carrying the same bow into the deer woods since 1990, but that all changed with the arrival of "PBS 2012". This bow has it all with form, function and fondle factor.
Me tooooooo!!!! TALL TINES ALL THE WAY :clapper: :clapper:
I love shooting different bows, most of them recurves. Right now an old Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet is really catching my fancy.
Zipper SXT !!!
Bill
For me it's my Assenheimer.
Border Hex 5 or 6 ILF. In a standard bow, anything Toelke or Bob Lee. Dryad does some great ILF limbs as well.
My Brackenbury Quest.
64" Brackenbury Legend. Smooth, Fast & Quiet!!!
John
Forgot to mention that the Brack is so fast the vacum of the arrow going down range blows my hair forward.
John
Right now it is a 1957 Bear Kodiak. Picked it up at a local online auction. I can't help but smile every time I shoot it. I got it cheap but it shoots as good as any modern custom bow I have shot.
Black widow kbx but my rose oak ultra delight is starting to take the cake
My Journeyman 58" 60#@28 recurve. This bow just flat out shoots, and Jared is a good fellow to boot.Would not sell it for 3 times what I paid for it.
My Tip is a close second.
I just picked up a used Assenheimer and i am loving it.
Palmer classic,, doesn't matter what selfbow, longbow or recurve I'm shooting if I walk over and pickup the classic its dead nuts every time,,,, and I'm not that big of a palmer fan anymore but man on man the bow so accurate, quiet and forgiving.
RER XR
Easy to shoot:)
I have grown so fond of my Bigriver widow wannbe, I like it better than any other that I own. I hardly shoot the others any more.

From 2007 till March of this year it was my Brack Quest. Now it's my Eaglewing Storm Eagle. 58" and 47@27 with static tips. Man, that thing flings a 1916 legacy downrange impressively. It is also easy for me to shoot well. Really trips my trigger!
Lippe
for me its a Robertson Fatal Styk.
Border Black Douglas these days.
Robertson Fatal Styk .
predator
Big Foot Sasquatch SS
My Phoenix Whippenstick without any doubt. Extremely fast, smooth and quiet. She shoots were I look. Not to mention that Ken is great guy which gives an fantastic service!
My Blacktail Snakebit. Looking forward to my one piece Silvertip though, might be a challenger.
The smoothest, lowest string angle and no stack@30 recurve I've shot and favorite is Toelke Traditional Archery's 64" Super Static. It has the beautiful lines and small riser of the 50's style recurves. Smooth and fast.
For recurve bow,Border Hex 6 bb2 without any doubts
Very unexotic Trad Tech Titan 17" riser with BF Extreme limbs. It will be traveling to Alberta with me this October.
My little 56" Bruin HR. Smooth, fast, light and hits where I'm looking.
I shoot mainly longbows but have a couple of recurves. My favorite recurve is my Zipper ZSR with Evo Accel carbon&foam recurve limbs!
17" Titan riser w/Dryad Epic mediums
Blacktail...
Journeyman is hands down the best recurve that I have ever shot. The bow is quick, quiet and accurate. Jared is a top notch fellow as well as is skills as a bowyer are exceptional.
Without a doubt, if I decide to shoot one of my recurves I always reach for my Bruin Huntmaster first.
My blackwidow pma II is my go to bow.
62" Chad Holm [Holm-Made] River Runner, Dual shelf, 45# @ 29" Best performing recurve I have ever shot.....and I have had a bunch! Osage and Cocobolo, pretty easy on the eyes also!
My 1967 Bear Grizzly.....
I won it in the St.Jude's raffle at the JLMBH in Feb of 2007. It was 40 years old... I hunted with it the last day of the Bunny Hunt, & missed a bunch of bunnys with it!!! I wrote a thread about it on here, "Hunting with a Piece of History"... I killed a Spikehorn with it that November... It has been my "Hunting Bow" & almost constant companian ever since.
I have had a few "custom" bows..... But I'll never buy another one. None of them have the "mystery" that the old Bears do.
Just one old woodchucker's thoughts.....
Timberhawk Strike XTS..Have two of them.Quietest bow I've hunted with.
Tall Tines for me! It's been a few years now and nothing quite suits me better.
Schafer Silvertips!!!!
Tied between a Bear Type I A wood riser with Dave Windauer yew limbs and my Rose Oak Ultra Delight
Tied between a Bear Type I A wood riser with Dave Windauer yew limbs and my Rose Oak Ultra Delight
A 58", 50# @ 28" Plainsman I bought used in 1981. Try as I might, I have yet to find another curve I can shoot better. :archer2:
Right now, it's my Morrison ILF metal riser and some foam core limbs I picked up. Next week or month it could be my trust BW PTFX.
Bob Lee Ultimate
Morrison Cheyenne
I'm firmly in the Whippenstick camp. My Hellfire (one piece) is just a shooter. It's got all the qualities I want in a great bow.
If I wanted a takedown or bow with a little more mass weight I'd get a Phoenix. Those bows are impressive!
Only recurve Ive ever had that made me lay my long bows down is my Tall Tines!!
Bear A takedown with Rosé Oak limbs. No maybe those RER limbs? No I think probably the Border Hex 6 limbs. I don't know those Windaur limbs are darn nice to. Well not sure now have to go shoot them all again..Choices!!!
Ditto what Str8Shooter has to say about his Whippensticks. I have had bows by a dozen or more of the big name makers and am surprised at how much superior my Whippenstick bows are. I have a one piece and a three piece Phoneix. I still have a dozen custom bows that I hardly shoot. After the Whippesticks they all feel lacking in something. Some are noisy by comparison, some harsh on the release and although speed is down on my list of priorities my Phoneix bow is the fastest I own and I still own a Fazio Balistic that is 5 pounds heavier than the Whippenstick. I have another Phoneix on order...............just in case.
Regards to all,
Dan
Rose Oak.......sweet.
FOR ME ,IT IS MY THUNDERSTICK RAMS HUNTER .I DONT THINK JIM MAKES THEM ANYMORE.

Dittos...I've had just about all of 'em.
I'm done looking. :goldtooth:
Right now a Kota Kill-um
I agree with Whip back on page 1...good old Jack Howard Gamemaster Jets - 66 inches of smooottthhhh. Cadillac o' bows right there. Nobody builds them like Jack did.
R
I am a longbow guy, so I don't often take the recurves out to play. When I do, I have a Red Wing Hunter that I like as well as my little Ben Pearson Gamester that I hold onto for sentimental reasons. It was my first bow and was used to kill my first deer.
AS - "I'm done looking"
Yea, right.
My blacktail. Can't shoot anything better than I shoot it.
Tall Tines for me.
I have a 15 +/- year old Wes Wallace Partner with a pair of 49# limbs and I've killed a butt load of deer with it. My first "custom" and the best I've ever owned. Wonderful bow.
I shoot longbows almost exclusively, but when I pull out a recurve, it's a Bear T/D. Versatile, stable and shoot where I want them to. Can't ask for more than that.
Blacktail
New Habu Recurve is going to be a good one! I think this will me moving to the top quickly.
:archer:
Ive shot alot of different bows but when I got ahold of a RER 46# 58" static recurve I new without a doubt it was the one..it makes me look really good..smooth draw no stack and very acurate..thank Bear best $50 I never spent...
Black widow 58 inch PCH!!! Simply amazing
Schafers
Really am liking my Pronghorn longbow right now. But for recurves, I could hunt anything right now with my Kota Prairie Swift and be happy. BUT, I just got a Blacktail and it is something special.
Time will tell. It is nice to have these kind of problems.
My K Mag!!
Snakebit!
Either one of the 2 below.
BW PCH ... 60" .. so smooth!!!
Dont think I could pick one. Too many good ones and a few great ones. My stable is getting narrowed down to my favorite 6.

Me too. or my Timberhawk Talon Premier . either one.

I just purchased a 1970's era Bear Super Grizzly, got it for a steal, non hunter had it. It is good hands now! Excellent shape and fits me to a tee. I'll post pics as soon as I can....
Like them all but the most consistent bow I have has been a Bob Lee.Killed Deer ,hogs, bear, I just feel like I can make a good shot with those bows when game is near which is to say confidance.Kip
My Pinnacle II seems to work good but I certainly won't mind having a Border Black Douglas with Hex 6 limbs or a Blacktail!
My Fox High Sierra. No doubts!
Great replies all. We sure have some clear cut favorites!
Just bought a RER XR off the classifieds and can't wait to get it.
You are gonna love that RER!
Mine is a nice little Robertson Gozhawk
My Assenheimer.
My KOTA KILLEM - IS MAGIC ! tHE ARROW IS THERE - BEFORE I THINK ABOUT IT. THE BOW SHOOTS FOR ME.
I think that my Silvertip TD just edges out the 1pc Tip
Tall Tines for me. Longest I've had a bow in quite a while!
My '64 Kodiak is my favorite recurve. Everything from the classic mojo to the grip to the great shooting qualities make it my "pry it from my cold dead fingers" recurve. :archer2:
For me it's my Zipper Extreme 60"
I too am mostly a longbow shooter. Recently, I picked up a one piece Bighorn from the Asbel era. I have truly enjoyed shooting this bow to the point that it will be at my side come October 1st.
"Which recurves bring the greatest joy?"
All of them, when I sold them and started shooting American semi longbows! :D
I sold all my recurves but one.A little 50" Browning Cobra 1. The grip fits like it was custom made for me and it's a pretty sweet little shooter.Don't know why,but I just can't put it up for sale.
What ever recurve is in my hand :scared: I love them all! Thank God :notworthy: I have so many great choices, the recurve that gives ME the Greatest Joy is the next :archer2: one in my hand!
Having a blast with my Predator. Just put on some heavier limbs and am stoked by how fast that arrow moves out, smokin' lol.
predator custom classic
although my ol bear 76r is real fun to shoot also
I'm a Bear fan , but Rose Oak Creations by Brandon Stahl takes it to a new level.
An old, beater no-name kids bow that I'm teaching my granddaughter to shoot with. I faced the bow with pink camo tape, gave her some arrows with pink feathers and a camo wrap to match the bow, and she doesn't want to put it down.
Hoyt Buffalo.
Schafers, just love the checkered grip and feel of the bows.
My new to me Kwyk Styk has quickly become my "go-to" bow. Never really thought I would say that about a recurve...
my little horse bow made by samick real smooth and fast and most of all Quiet!!!! :archer2:
The Orion right hand St. Jude recurve made by Dryad. I can't remember which one is "Hope" and which is "Faith". I think it's "Hope" and what year was it? I believe it might have been 2010. I really enjoyed shooting that recurve
No doubt the RER "XR".
But my Rick Welch "Dakota" is really nice too.

Me, I have tasted chocolate with my Habu WZ I'll never eat sugarcane again
Sax bocote. It's smooth as butter. Easy choice tho since its the only curve I own.
My late husband fell in love with his Rocky Miller Predator. Used it successfully on moose, bear and elk. Richard said it was his favorite bow, and he owned many. It is the one bow in Richard's collection I will never part with.
Right now it's my new Fred Bear Custom Kodiak T/D with black maple and red stripes.I always wanted one and when the 2011 came out i couldn't resist.I have/had/shot many customs 'all fine bows', I also have a 69 k mag that gives geat joy because of the memories. :archer:
I too have been a long bow shooter the last 3 years, a robertson ravenstyk, but purchased a robertson wolfer this year and now I'm torn as to which bow goes hunting this year,it's a great bow.
My first recurve, a 64 Kodiak. Man that grip just fits my hand. However I finally got my first tip, and am in love.
I was just thinking a little more today about my favourite recurve...the truth is it is whichever one I have in my hands at the time...I do not have any that I do not like so no need to pick a favourite...my favoured bow right now is my low budget Howatt Hunter...just decided today that is the bow I will hunt with in about a month when the season opens, mostly because it shoots so well with the arrows I want to try...660 grain arrows out of a 63 pound bow might be a bit more than needed for deer, but they will do the job and with any luck I might be able to fill two mule deer doe tags with one shot
DDave
I have been blessed to own quite a few customs in my life, but would have to give the edge to Blacktail.
The Bear Grizzly in all of its glory! I have several from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. The 60s - 80s model are the style that, to me, exemplifies the perfect recurve.
commanche static recurve by Curtis byrd I picked up a 54 lb lefty and its a later model that he made with a little more zip.although they were all flat shooters.
Dale Dye Trails End for me. Everything you could ever want in a bow.
Palmer Classic for me!
LOve my new Tuktu EX static, it is a smoker and I shoot it as well as any bow I have owned. My Belcher riser with Hex-6H limbs is right alongside it and I will carry them both this year! Shawn
Right now it's my Big Foot Sasquatch and Black Widow PTF

My 1986 Groves Spitfire Mag II. When it was my only bow, I could really shoot the lights out with it. Can't imagine I'd shoot any other recurve better!
My Tall Tines. It shoots extremely smooth and is very easy on the eyes. It will get its first taste of success in a couple weeks on a Manitoba bruin.
Zipper SXT and Morrison Cheyenne are the two I judge all others by that I try.
Blacktail...
