Title: a few days off
Post by: goingoldskool on July 14, 2013, 03:09:00 PM
Two reasons for this post....  one, to see if I can post pics and: two, I have to take a trip for work and will be gone for a week...  Should I expect to lose some of my accuracy after not shooting for a week?  I've been shooting traditional since Jan, and I have not been more than a couple days without shooting...  The target was shot at just over 20yrds. hopefully I don't have much to worry about, but I would appreciate your input.

Thanks,  (http://i1275.photobucket.com/albums/y460/goingoldskool/20130706_080528_zpsa287a28e.jpg) (http://s1275.photobucket.com/user/goingoldskool/media/20130706_080528_zpsa287a28e.jpg.html)

With three arrows like that at 20+ yds I don't think a week off will hurt you too much! Lol! Nice shooting

JMR,
Thanks for the speedy reply... I have to say that IS my best group shot to date... The thing is, I am leaving for bearcamp in Ontario about 3 weeks after I get back and I'm hoping I don't have to re-establish my learning curve on short notice.

Thanks again!

I only get to shoot on week ends. If I take a week or two off I usually shoot better.

You'll be fine.  Your concentration will be great after the layoff.  Don't take too many shots the first day back though.  Recognize when you tire and stop before you "tweak" something.

Hope I have that going for me, oldskool!  I don't know how much practice I'm going to get before the road trip.
Thanks for the reply!

Vast majority of my shooting at distances greater than 12 yards is done on weekends.

I work hard on my cold shots each day of the weekend.

Don't believe it will hurt you too badly.

Many times after,a couple of week layoff I'm surprised at how well I shoot.
Don't forget to shoot those broadheads before the hunt.

macbow,
I shot the broadheads (simmons 175) yesterday morning...  all 12 shot great at 20 yrds. I'm planning on taking them with me on my work trip to get them scary sharp.  I plan on having some down time that could utilized properly!
  Thanks to you and 3under

Hello all,
Good to be back with the family and my beloved BW PL-III!  I shot a little bit last evening and went out this morning to try the sitting shot on the bear target.  All went really well! I did get my Simmons BH sharpened and read G. Fred Asbell's 'Advanced Instinctive Shooting For Bowhunting'. Which is a very good read.

Anyhow, after this morning's practice session, I will NOT shoot more than 1 arrow at the target anymore!  This kind of thing can/is getting expensive!

Thanks for all the encouragement and hope to be posting pics after the bear hunt in Aug!

Sometimes taking a break is just the thing to needed to get over the hump. I know it helps me from time to time. Nice shooting and good luck at bear camp!

Man, shooting bears over bait is one thing, but when you have to hobble him.......   :)

I knew somebody would comment on that..... It's very effective, though! This is what happens when you let the wife mow the yard and she doesn't care how 'close' she gets to the target. It's been in two pieces for close to 10 years now and the bungees seem to work pretty well at keeping it together.

VictoryHunter, I appreciate your well wishes and Blade, if I could hobble some whitetails this fall... I surely would! easier tracking!

thanx guys!

With the recent addition to our family, I've been shooting less than ever better. The ironic thing is, when I do shoot, I'm shooting more consistant and better than I have in a very long time. Sometimes it pays to rest a little.
