Today I was shooting all my bows and decided to take my Byron Ferguson Woodsman Longbow for a go. Shot some terrible arrows and went walking up the back porch steps. I caught my foot or something and fell right on the bow! My left arm took the blunt of the force but a Longbow limb tip cannot hold the weight of a 210lb man. I heard a sickning "Snap" of wood and was horrified to see I took my top limb tip clean off! Im pretty sick to say the least but I guess its time to go bow shopping and see what I can get for this fall but man I cant belive my luck. Ill get over it but im thinking the Bear Montana is my best choice. I wanted to try a 70-75lb Longbow but cant find none in my 300-400$ price range but Bear dont make them that heavy. Just had to vent sorry guys
i can feel your pain good luck with your shopping for a new bow
Sorry to hear about your loss. You nver know if you are patient. Sometimes those heavy bows are tough to move and you may get a deal.
Try Maddog.
Yea, don't forget the classifieds.......do an add with what your looking for ....there may be one out there. Best of luck!!
Hate to hear that Nick. Hope you find what you are looking for.
2blade-Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Check out the classifieds for the Great Northern Critter Gitter for sale. I brought the topic up to the top for you. GREAT PRICE and about the poundage you were looking for. Good Luck
Thanks guys I shoot close to 60lbs and ive wanted to go heavier for sometime. But im gonna look around and see what I find. I actually bought this Longbow from a TG Member I hope he dont read this! He will be mad :(
Bummer about your bow but it was probably meant to be. I bet your next bow will be Grand
Charlie I was thinking the same thing honestly.
I knew a guy who had the same thing happen and he had his bow shortened by 4 inches. Not the same beast but he didnt have to toss it. :dunno:
Find yourself a good use Hill
It sucks anytime a bow breaks on you!
Bisch
Terrible news. Amazing how quickly stuff happens. Good luck getting that replacement bow!
Sorry to hear of your loss!
There's a heavy Dave Johnson in the classifieds now. American Semi-Longbow at it's best!!
All I can do is repeat others... I am sorry for your loss.
I am even more grateful that you weren't seriously hurt.
God bless,Mudd
Cut the same amount off the other limb, the weight will go up as you wanted, and you will still have a hunting bow.
How much of the tip broke off? Was it a clean break? Fixable?
For a factory bow, the Bear Ausable can't be beat. Just a little over your price range though.
thats a shame.
Martin or a Tred Barta (made by Martin) all are available to 70 as standard. could be a good used option
I slipped on a steep hill side once and landed square on my butt. My Schulz Hunter, bless her heart, tried to break my fall and cracked the bottom tip. The bow was 68" long and was 72 at 28, now it is 65&3/4" and 63 at 26. It is one of the finest 26" draw shooting longbows ever created and then recreated.
Send me your bow and I will fix it for you if only the tip or a very short piece is broken. It will only cost you shipping and you will get a heavier bow. Maybe just like you wanted.
Pm me if interested.
God bless, Steve
Steve that is a great offer hope he takes you up on it Thanks Shane
I have a perfect Quillian longhunter 68" 67# for sale sent you an email about it
That sucks, sorry for your loss. Good luck finding a new toy!
WOW SIX, very nice of ya.
:clapper: :clapper: Sixby!
My condolences!
I'd take Sixby's offer. I was actually going to recommend just piking the bow. But if you can get a proper bowyer to do it for you, and go up in weight a bit .... man thats a win win win win situation.
Heres what it loooks like folks

Pretty sur it can be saved. Way to be Sixby! :notworthy:
Bummer
TAKE SIXBY'S OFFER!!!! He is an amazing guy and will for sure do you right. There's no doubt about that. I can't thank him enough for what he did for me. Fixing the tip will bring the weight up close to what your wanting.
PM has been sent to Sixby! Waiting for a response :)
If it does put my bow poundage up there can I safely pratice shooting with my 55-60spine Cedar arrows or would there be a chance of them snaping? I got a couple 2117s laying around too.
Not a problem. I can fix that and make it ff tips at the same time. Have her back to you in nothing flat. In fact from what I see if I make small tips it won't even effect the poundage over about five lbs max and if I have to I could probably take that off but would have to refinish the limbs.
You will have to have a shorter string though.
God bless, steve
Kudos to Sixby, for his kind offer. :clapper:
Two Blade,
I know how you feel. I had a recurve for about a month and a half. Got to about half draw when I heard a crack. Delam on the bottom limb. Very bad feeling.
Six rocks just gotta get myself a tube to ship the bow in and ill be ready! Cant say enough what this means to me. We got some great folks on Tradgang!!!!
:archer:
PS: You can build something safer than a tube for shipping.
