Title: Traditional Archery/Bowhunting Magazines?
Post by: LYONEL on July 05, 2013, 05:11:00 PM
In Australia we don't have any dedicated Trad Magazines & I will not buy our mags with 98% Wheelie content as I have absolutley no interest in them. So what magazines would you recommend that I could subscribe to that would post to Australia?

Lyonel, another option would be to join the Professional Bowhunters Society as an associate.
Pretty decent news letter/ magazine. And a lot of like minded hunters.

Primitive Archer IMHO is one of the better ones.  Has much more how to's and it also has a flint knapping section.

I believe Traditional Bowhunter actually has a digital edition, so that may be worth it to you right there.

Lyonel, Traditional Bowhunter has a digital subscription that is much cheaper for us. You can just download them as a PDF or view them online if you use an ipad. Also you can download all their old 'sold out' issues for free too. Check it out at tradbow.com. If you want to have a look before you get a subscription you can buy single pdf copies for about 4 bucks.

Become a member of the Michigan Longbow Association ($20 your 1st year and $15 for a renewal---we take Paypal too to make it easy) and we can email you a digital copy of our Sticktalk.  Honestly, it is on par with the names already mentioned.

There is also one called , I believe, Pacific Rim Archer, or something to that effect.  Never read it, but have heard others mention it.

Traditional Bowhunter. I also highly recommend Bowhunter. It does have wheelie stuff but I would say it's around 50/50 as one of the editors as well as one of it's big contributors are both trad guys.

Compton Traditional Bowhunters also puts out a very nice quarterly magazine for its members.

Just my personal opinion, but the quality of the posters here leave little to be desired or gained.

I personally think Primitive Archer & Traditional Bowhunter Magazines should be tried.  Both have reps that attend shoots and really relate to the everyday archer in my opinion.

Not to mention, you'd have some great reading material, photos, classifieds and outstanding Vendors who advertise in both.

Archery related only on occasion, but any traditionalist has to subscribe to The Backwoodsman. I'd cancel them all before that one!

I get Traditional Bowhunter Magazine, Primitive Archer, TradArchers World, Stick and String.

Then I also get club magazines from PBS (PBS Magazine) and Comptons (Walk in the Woods).

$20 (US) per year buys an online subrscription to Traditional Bowhunter magazine.  Digital issues can be downloaded to your computer, smart phone,  or e-reader.  The online subrsciption also gives you access to sold out editions dating back to the beginning of the magazine.
