After shooting long enough, we all develop our own shooting style but it seems that most of us generally base our personal style on the style of one of our many pioneers or very accomplished personalities such as Hill, Bear, Mr. Asbell, ETC.
Who would you say that your style of shooting most resembles? :campfire:
Mine,....Nobody who was any good....... :biglaugh:
John Schulz on a very bad day with his eyes closed.
Mine is closer to how Rick welch shoots.
What Ron said!
Gumby!
Never had a mentor in my life so I guess I am a truly instinctive shooter.
God bless, Steve
Couldn't tell ya.I kind of look at a bunch of different styles, try them out and take the parts that work for me. I guess I must be an orginal mutt. :biglaugh:
I have no idea, myself?
"Topic: Your style of shooting, who does it most emulate?"
me.
all that matters with a free form aiming sport such as archery is consistency, ACCURATE consistency. we're all different in many ways from physical to mental. while there are some guidelines to archery consistency, only you can define and hone the form that will work best for you, your tackle, your hunting. attempting to copy the form of others for the sole sake of emulation is pointless, fruitless, counterproductive and will never allow your best consistent accuracy. ymmv.
The books that Fred Asbell has wrote have helped me a lot.I do not shoot exactly like him,but his way in general really works for me.
It's all my own, but I can tell you with all honesty Paul........I'm every bit as good as Dave Bentley! :biglaugh: :archer2:
Monty Browning....he once told me that he has a variable draw length system , and so do I on occassion......(some days I can't get full anchor to save me) :dunno:
depends on what position I'm shooting from and what type of bow I'm shooting.
speaking of folks that are still alive I wish I had Ron Pittsley's accuracy along with Pat Lefemine's full draw - anchor time, then shoot in my many styles..... it would almost be too easy!
Fred Asbell ! As these were the books I read when I started and on some occations review!
I was taught by my dad -- an accomplished bowhunter. Then I started gap/instinctive shooting, which dad didn't teach me. I think a lot of Howard Hill's explanation of "split-vision" shooting when I shoot. And I've gotten a lot of tips from TradGang.
But I have my own style, and don't try to emulate anyone.
What Rob said.....
In my own mind I'm Robin Hood...lol
But that's only when the bows I shoot take me down the path to "Sherwood".
God bless,Mudd

With all due respect there are not really all that many different ways to accurately shoot a traditional bow. When you think about how long people have been shooting them, I strongly suspect some of the "legends" mentioned earlier shot the same way many before them did. That said, I agree completely with what Rob said in his earlier reply.
:knothead:
I think I shoot most like Papa Bear. I also learned a lot of the technical stuff from Mr. Asbell but I always go back and watch the old Fred Bear movies and try to copy his movements. I think they shoot in a very similar style though.
Wow! Just went and read Rob's comment. That's heavy stuff but I never thought of it that way. Thanks Rob!
Rick Welch while he is sleeping!
What rob said. When Im out chasing stuff Im Some stone age dude sneeking up on a dyer wolf or saber tooth cat.
Coach Arne Moe! Also, Byron Ferguson.
But I have used the "Moleman Muscle Strength Maximization Method" for increasing my draw weight.
Well since no one in my family shot archery, and I started to shoot when I was about 7-8 yrs old and that was way back in 57-58, as in 1957-58, I guess myself. I never had a instruction but was lucky enough to end up with good form.
If I had to pick someone, I guess it would have to be our very own moebow, since I have been watching his instructions to others closely and then checking to see if I am doing what he recommends, though most of the time I am, I still learn why it's correct, and am able to correct any imperfections in my form. Kind of like learning what I use to do naturally but now understanding it all.
Thanks Moe !
Katnis, LOL.
Barry Wensel was a big influence on me when I first started shooting a trad bow. I watched him in the October Whitetails videos and I liked the way he brought his bow up as game approached and then just came back to anchor and shot. The lack of movement mades sense to me and I still shoot that way many years later.
D.P.
Some days I shoot like Tarzan, other days like Jane.
Tim Strickland's Eleven Steps to Archery Success.
Rick Welch fits me best
Fred Bear!!! He was, Still is, and will always be... My Hero!!!!!
I shoot Bear Bows & I wear a hat like his!!!
The only one that's close to famous would be Ishi. I've had instruction in yumi, as well as aboriginal American archery. I've noticed I don't shoot much like any of you guys, but I still hit my target.
A blend of Jimmy Blackmon, John Demmer, Steve Nicholson and my own. But I can only dream of shooting half as good as either one of them.
After trying different styles of archery and trying to blend them over a number of years, I have concluded that Rick Welch's style works best for me and I should stop trying to blend things.
Went to Rick Welch's school, practice the way he taught me, pretty much shoot just like him. Since going to his school I have won 90 % of the 3d shoots I have been to.
I taught myself how to shoot and I'm pretty happy with the results. I never emulated anyone and will not mess with other styles. I shot 2 groundhogs today with 3 shots, good enough!
Mike Fedora was giving a shooting seminar at ETAR one time and I paused long enough to realize HE shoots just like ME. :)
I've taken alot of my style from Mr. Asbell.
