are there any good bow holders for climbing stands that work well for longbows? also i've got a chance to buy a sumit viper(i think). it's not an open front top piece. anyone one use one of these? can you shoot a long bow or recurve out of these type? i don't get off before dark for a couple more days to try.

I used to use the bow holders that attach to the stand and are kind of a "U" shaped bracket that you slide the lower limb into. But after a couple of times bumping the bow accidentily and watching it fall to the ground I decided they weren't for me. I now just use the screw in hooks and hang the bow from a limb or on the tree.
I use the same as Whip, always have.....
I keep my bow across my lap with an arrow nocked. That way I'm always ready. Pat
I use the little screwins or tree branch like Guru and Whip. However over the years I find myself using Pat B's method of keeping the bow in my lap arrow nocked.
I recently had a bud give me one of those folding screw in bow holders. I use Curts method most of the time but with a climber ya can screw it in the tree right over head and fold it open and the bow hangs right down in front of ya, it also has a few other hooks ya could hang binos or water bottle, etc. from. Shawn
I do as Shawn does. I use the longest 3 piece folding screw holder. Having my longbow right in front of me just like I was holding it really limits any movement to the bow. It is never in the way cause I cant the longbow thus making the tip lower than the holder...Doc
I use the Summit Viper and just lay the bow across the front rail. You have to stand up to shoot but never had a problem unless trying to shoot straight down.
I use those rubber coated screw hooks.Got 6 for a dollar at the dollar store. Now I just leave them in the tree so it helps me judge the height I was at last time and its ready to go.
I use a screw in hook also but last year I started tyingthe bottom my pant legs up with parachute cord (shoestring knot) and started sticking the bottom limb in the loop of the knot. It works really well sitting your bow is in your hands and all you have to do is lift it an inch or so and you have it free of the loop.
I try to find a small limb and hang it by the bowquiver or string grove. You don't need much to hold a couple of lbs.
