Title: Broadhead target recommendations
Post by: moleman on June 29, 2013, 04:56:00 PM
Since ive plum worn mine out and its getting close to that time when I start shooting a few broadheads now and then, im on the hunt for a good broadhead target.
Block or bag makes no difference as long as it holds up well and is cost effective.
Any good ones come to mind?   :campfire:

The rhinehart 18-1  multi sided target. I shoot broadheads exclusively and this target is 2 years old. I think I have wore out three sides. Comes with one year warranty. You wear it out in one year and they will replace it. I bet you won't. I shoot quite a bit. A very wise purchase for me, $99.00 shipped. I am sure they are a bit more now.

Rinehart, best broadhead target I've used and more portable than the sand box.

If I lived where I could shoot in back of the house, I'd build a nice box sand pit to shoot them in.

I like the Rhinehart also, but I tend to loose points when I shoot into those types of targets. Are you guys using glue on points? What type of glue do you use?

You may want to check out the Big Shot Transformer.  It has different density panels that slide in and out of a larger box.  The panels can be oriented to accommodate different bow poundages and they are replaceable. I too have used a rhinehart, and must say that overall, I have been happy with them, but they do get tore up pretty good, and leave chunks of foam around the yard when they grow older.

ha ha the cheapo quickie is a cardboard box full of loose rags, sheets, towels,, the broad heads spin up in the rags and stop with really no damage to the edges,,  you unpin them out of the rags and remove from the opening.

the Rinehart is nice too!

I use a box filled with either layers of cardboard or old clothing and towels.  Then I just practice with field points for targets and Judo points for plinking after I get my arrows tuned, the broadheads flying straight, and the field points flying where my broadheads hit.

I also only shoot 125gr screw in broadheads specifically so that I can practice with screw in Judo points when roving and shooting at old cans or stuffed animals out back.  If I need more point weight for my arrow build, I just use weighted inserts.

One odd coincidence is that a 125gr Judo presents almost identically in terms of sight picture to a 125gr broadhead in terms of length and width of broadhead or Judo springs.     ;)

Rinehart. I think non-vented broadheads help extend target life too.
