Title: KUIU Tiburon Pant - How do you like them?
Post by: Steve Chappell on June 28, 2013, 02:53:00 PM
Anyone that has purchased and used the KUIU Tiburon pants I'd like to hear your thought on them. I want something lighter than my merino First Lite Kanab pants for those warmer days in September Elk hunting. I prefer ASAT but have not been able to find a non-cotton fabric that does not attract burrs and is well made pant in ASAT.

I just got mine and have only tried them on.  They are extremely lightweight.  I wish I would have had them on some of my 90 degree elk hunts in the past.  I am anxious to try them out and see how durable they are.  Maybe I will draw Wyoming elk next fall.

Hi Steve
Now I will say I don't own or tried the Tiburon, I do have the Attack pant which is a little heavier at 18 oz. I used them elk hunting with temps in the mid 80's-90. I found them very comfortable and was happy I was not wearing wool or cotton. They dry very fast and I would say I'm happy with them. Burrs don't seem to be a big problem. On the down side they are not as quiet as wool. When walking in brush they do not compare with wool. I really wish someone would come up with a material that would be as quiet.

Here is my question to you are the Kanab pants as quiet as regular wool? Being wool how are they around burrs?

Hi Abe

I had the KUIU Attack pants along with Guide vest and Jacket and some hats and a beanie in Vias that I bought when they first came out but never used them so I sold them all this winter.  I liked the fit and feel but always used my ASAT clothing.  That was a lot of money to have just hanging in my hunting closet looking pretty. While I never use the Attack pants they seemed a bit heavy for those hot ELk hunting days in September but I cannot say since I never used them.  I recall reading that as an issue with some of the KUIU users.

The Kanab pants are a thinner tightly woven merino wool fabric and I find them very quiet. Due to the weave of the fabric or something they are not dead quiet and do pick up those banana shaped black burrs that are now prevalent where I hunt in CO but you can pick them off very easily.  Michigan has so many different burrs that just love making clothing a permanent home, fleece being at the top, I always take this into consideration when picking a fabric. The Kanab pants tend to be tight in the thigh area, which is the only thing I do not like about them.  When it is hot I like loose fitting pants.

I had the Day One light Fleece ASAT pants and they were really nice and quiet but they picked up burrs like magnets and the burrs would get deep into the fabric making it hard to get out...I did not use them in MI. Sold them too.

I really like the ASAT camo pattern but finding I am very limited in options for quality clothing.  I use pretty much all First Lite and really like their stuff but I'd like other pants options. Day One offers ASAT but outside wool, everything is a cotton based fabric which I stay away from for the most part. I wish companies like KUIU would offer an ASAT CAMO options.  The KUIU Vias pattern is good but I still prefer ASAT.

Still digging my Taiga I order from you at the Hasting, MI Trad Expo back in 1995.

Really like the Tiburon Pants
Very breathable light weight and the outside of the Fabric is surprisingly bur resistant. Ill have it up in the Cape Peninsular latter this year for some really hot weather testing. So far pretty Impressed!
