Title: Recurves........what a pleasant change
Post by: moleman on June 27, 2013, 09:56:00 PM
Being one who is a huge fan of Hill styles, tonite I took my old Super Kodiak out a knocked the dust off of her and shot her a bit,......all I can say is WOW! Talk about totally different! it was like day and night!
I kept hitting right due to not being used to a center cut riser but I shot some really nice groups in spite of that and the change was quite pleasant.
For you recurve fans, it became quite apparent why you choose recurves and as for myself, I think im gonna keep playing with my old Super Kodiak, as it shows great potential and was a pleasant change.

I am making the switch from a long time with longbows to recurves and i am very pleased. I am finding that i really like the extra mass in the risers.

I came back.  Just enjoy them more and shoot them better.  Your results may vary.

I like both recurves and longbows. Love shooting them both. I see no real need to pick one over the other . In fact I have no problem taking one of each on a hunt.

God bless, Steve

I seem to be a "recurve guy", but sure like the look of a back quiver full of arrows and a long bow.
I had a Mowhawk but sold it in frustration because I couldn't seem to stop the arm slap of the string. My fault from form issues, but I figured a recurve would be my bow and that's it.
But I regret the LB and back quiver being gone and will probably be soon enough be re-living my frustration!
Love the 'curve, though...

I shoot both as well, invariably I come back to recurve. If I could use only one word describing why, "smoother" would fit the bill.

I can be just as accurate with a longbow, but not as consistent.

When I first started shooting, recurves were all I shot. Then in the early '90s I started messing with r/d longbows.A little while later I got my first American semi longbow.
Now I have 11 ASL's,a Shrew(which is more of a recurve than a longbow to me) and a Browning CobraI recurve.
I just enjoy shooting the ASL's so much,I can't see going back to recurves.
Shoot what ever makes you happy brother!

I am sure it is just a mind over matter thing but....
I have tried longbows on several occasions, and just prefer recurves more.

I like 'em all, but my Hill bows are where its at for me. However, I have never owned one of the higher end recurves.

I like shooting both, but I think I have found my perfect blend of the two in 50's style static recurves. slim handle with low mass, and quietness like the longbow. smooth draw and relatively higher speed of the recurve.

my Sheepeater Spirit shoots great for me, and i'm guessing the RER Retro I have on order will too.

I like them all... Just wish I could get my recurves as quiet as my longbows...

I definitely like recurves better especially the 50 style like the Northern Mist Ottawa's. I do have a couple longbows but recurves rule for me.

the only longbow I owned for any amount of time was a damon howat ML 14...I think it was the mountaineer?  Anyway, it was 68" and 65 lbs...pulled like a leaf spring off a duece and a half, and I just couldn't do well with it.  My old K-mag was the straight shizzy...50lbs, and way smoother (I only drew like 26" back then, so didn't get a chance to really pinch my small fingers, or stack up).  But I've always wanted to try a decent longbow for a decent amount of time.
