I had high hopes for an Iowa tag this year. Tippit and I put in hoping to draw and had a great place lined up to hunt. But just checked the website today and it looks like we have to wait another year. :dunno: We have hunted together in a lot of different places, but he hasn't ever been to my cabin, so that wouldn't be a bad back up plan...
I drew this year! Kansas usually has left over tags don't they?
I thought they might, but I just looked at the Kansas website and couldn't find anything about left over tags. Still checking....
Don't get too bummed about coming here to Iowa. You have some great hunting in Wisconsin.
Oh, I know we have some great hunting here, and I will take full advantage of it even if we do end up hunting somewhere else as well. I do enjoy hunting other states as well though. Being retired gives the luxury of being able to hunt a lot, and it's nice to see some new ground too. ;)
Don't fall for that! Wisconsin is nothing like Iowa! Lol.
Joe,
3 points for SE IA? I've been sitting on three for a couple years waiting to find the right place and have enough time to do the tag justice. Wondering if I should pony up for one more.
I have been bow hunting here in Iowa since 1959. Sure we have some nice deer, but the damn tv shows would lead you to believe they are behind every tree. I can tell you that's not the case.
Bob
3 points here and I was unsuccessful as well. Three of us stick bow hunters applied as a group with one having 4 points, still no luck. Maybe next year!
I have been, south west corner. Near Bowman and Amidon, Missouri breaks. Shot a nice mulie there.
Bob
Joe
Did you have 3 pts? And not draw on the 4th year.
SteveO, we applied for zone 9, NE corner, but only 2 points going in to the draw. If I read last years draw stats correctly I figured maybe a 70% chance of drawing that tag.
I missed what I thought was a decent chance of pulling a Utah deer tag this year too. Guess my luck last year with the bison tag is catching up to me...
Oh well, I'll keep throwing my name in a bunch of hats.
"Or maybe we will just stay in Wisconsin. We have hunted together in a lot of different places, but he hasn't ever been to my cabin, so that wouldn't be a bad back up plan... "
Y`all need some nightly entertainment up there in the form of a budding guitar picker? I got just the guy for you! :bigsmyl:
Joe, I hope you guys have a great time at the cabin. Have you considered Ohio or Illinois? Maybe even Minnesota? Not sure if all these states are OTC states but I know one could find decent hunting.
Gee Whipster, I don't know what to say except;
NAAAA, NA NA BOO BOO.....
I got my zone 5 tag
Hey Whip, sorry you missed out on your Ia. tag.
Lived in S.E. Ia. my whole life, we do have some nice deer. I use to hunt Northern Mo. some,(always thought it was a sleeper state for whitetails) Tags are over-the-counter and not bad priced. There is some public ground near Unionville,Lancaster and Kirksville just to name a few. Not to mention what Kenny M could maybe do for you. You might want to take a look.
Pound Cake at Whips cabin ain't too bad of an option ... sorry you did not draw Joe.
Good afternoon Joe, sorry you did not draw, I missed out on a deer tag for Colorado also. So will settle to hunt the farm also. Storms down there have done their damage though. We are not too far from you cabin from what Charlie says. Hope your place is still intact. Saw a real nice deer last weekend. Hope some of the ones from last year are still around,
Whip go a few miles south of Iowa to Missouri and by a tag OTC, deer are very good there.
Haven't had much chance to look at options yet. Will try to do some of that tonight. But hunting WI is not a bad plan B - we would do just fine there too. I'm guessing that I will figure out a way to make up for it with another trip somewhere down the road.
Congrats on the tag Biggie. And for the heartfelt sympathy  Will see what develops with Jeff, but I do need to get you up there sometime either way!
There are a lot of states I haven't hunted and would like to fix that sometime. Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma. Time to start dreaming and scheming...
Hey Joe, Me'n Heirmoan are heading up to the frozen wasteland that is Vance's place in early September.
You up for a road trip? ;)
I drew my tag, pumped.
I'd love to spend time at Vance's with the two of you Rob, but have to take this year off of WY. I'm doing Montana speed goats in Aug. and CO elk in Sept. I have to ration my time away and spread it out a bit to keep the peace here at home. With those two trips it is a little tough to feel sorry for myself for missing Iowa this year. But I do anyway.
I've got three points. Looking for the right place to hunt next year or the folllowing. If anybody needs a member for a short term lease access fee etc. please let me know. I'll do the same for you. Good luck to those who drew!
Iowa continues to go down hill. Period!!
I agree that Northern Missouri is a sleeper. When I drive over that boarder I see the same deer sign. Tags over the counter can not be beat!
Drew a zone 5 tag; 4 pts did the trick for me. Been scouting a lease since March. Really looking forward to it.
Whip - Don't forget about the WI PBS hunt. Could provide a nice diversion, even if only for a weekend.
Good luck to all those who drew. At least no drought to stress the deer.
Going Home...WI & pound cake ain't bad :) All my family is from northern Wisconsin. I'll scoot over to the knife forum to see what Kevin is up to this fall in Missouri  Then there's always a South Carolina trifecta of deer, hogs, and possibly a gator from our farm. I think we'll be doing something this fall. Oh Iowa next fall  tippit
Hey Joe, if you happen to get down to northern Missouri to look around give me a call. I'll be over there on and off and there is an extra bunk in the cabin. There is plenty of public access ground nearby, I don't know what it is like, but I'll be checking it out myself this fall.

i have friends with 4 pointing trying to draw for se iowa and had no luck this year either. kansas had leftovers but i think they sold out, one often overlooks northern missouri for big deer and farmers that have lots of ground and lots of crop damage just a idea?
4 points and cannot draw. Amazing.
So much for a bad economy and increased tag fees and has prices bringing applications down...
my guess is people are just holding out for se iowa zone for their tags, thats where the outfitters and leased ground is.
Sorry Whip! I drew with 3 points and friend drew with 2 in Zone 7! We have a place lined up and ready to role! Come on November!!!
Whip, Missouri? Sent you a PM.
Got shot down in WY for my antelope tag in our area near Vance. One point used to be a shoe-in there. Oh well, next year. Just have to stay home and hunt Iowa - bummer.
I have hunted N.E Missouri a few times. Lots of public land an great deer. I saw 4 P&Y Bucks the last two years I hunted there.
PM me if you want to talk about it Jeff(or Ryan).
(or???).
I need to check to see if I drew a tag !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Illinios Non Resident applications are on sale thru June 30th. I put in for Iowa Points only this year. Drew a Kansas Archery deer Tag, Nevada Archery Mule Deer, Colorado Archery Mule Deer. and New Mexico Archery Elk. Hit the Tag lottery this Year. Missed AZ Elk with 14 points.
Good Luck, Randy
Wow Randy, that's going to be a busy fall! Enjoy!
Turns out that there were some leftover tags in Kansas still available. Not the unit we hunted last year, but Jeff and I will be headed back to the Sunflower state come November! Not a bad backup plan at all. Now I'm as excited about this as I would have been for Iowa. Had a hard time sleeping last night. :D
You guys can have my tag from here on out. I drew this year but will not put in again. I just don't want to pay nearly $600 for a deer tag anymore.
Joe, do you need a camp bitch to go with the guitar picker? I come with refereces. Just kidding, you guys could always take a road trip for a side hunt by me.
