Title: About to pull the trigger on an Excel/TT Black Max .... ADVICE?
Post by: LittleBen on June 25, 2013, 02:30:00 PM
I think I'm about to make a move on a new bow. This will be the first bow I've bought NEW, ever, and my first bow in nearly 5 years I think. I've been frantically making bows for years but finally have the itch for something a little more high tech.

I'm pretty well set on a 21" excel blackout riser, and blackmax glass/wood shorts, for a 62" length bow.

I'm really just debating the draw weight ... I draw about 25" and I can't decide whether to go with 50# or 55# limbs ...

I figure 50# will be about 43# @ 25" and 55# will be 48#.

I usually shoot around 40-45#@25" so I'm not sure how to go with this.

I don't knwo if the extra few lbs will make it less comfortable to shoot, or if I'll appreciate the extra oomph when hunting.

Any advice will be appreciated ... I guess I'm just nervous I'm going to buy 50# limbs, and not feel like I have quite enough heat to make this a serious hunting rig.

Thanks ahead of time.

The 50#'ers will have plenty of umph!! But if it were me I would go for the med. not the shorts. A bit more working limb I think would be a good thing on a 21" riser. I may be wrong......but that's my thoughts.....

Yeah I thought about ti but I figured with my short draw of 25".

Maybe mediums aren't a bad idea. Anyone have experience with both? or one?

I guess another 2" isn;t going ot be a big deal , I just hope I can shoot them out of my blind.

with a 25" draw length & shooting out of a blind & be inclined to get a shorter riser... & go for the 48lb limbs

$$$ is whats keeping me from going with one of the more expensive ILF risers.

The shorts will be fine. At the time this video was taken, I was drawing 29". This is the Excel with 45# shorts and was very smooth and fast. Click video.

Thanks TW. Yeah, I figured they'd be fine. The bow being too short is generally not my problem. Usually it's that I'm not drawing the bow back to the most efficient range.

I think shorts will prolly give me the most speed at my draw, and I know they're not gonna stack.

My only other glass bows are a pair of 54" recurves so I'm sure this will be a whole lot smoother.
