I am ordering a new 3 piece longbow soon. I know I want black walnut limbs and in riser. What looks good with walnut? Pics please. Thank you.
How about osage and walnut riser?
Birdseye maple?

Bocote
I love fresh osage with it but it loses the contrast as it darkens. Maple would be a good bet I think. Try to get walnut with some swirly sapwood if you can - provided you like the looks of that cream color. Good luck and enjoy it!
KOA
I second Maple, birds eye or one of the others (spackled, etc)
Myrtle and walnut are two of my favorites.

Osage, Yew, light Koa, lighter Bacote, even bamboo can look good with walnut.
How bout American and Red Elm?

Olive burl. The dark grain found in the olive matches walnut very well.
Cherry
Anything! Love walnut. A matching knife handle also looks good! :bigsmyl:
I got actionwood with my walnut I love the contrast of patterns of the wood. I has a great camo effect.

That myrtle looks killer too!
Osage, maple, especially figured, and cherry just naturally go with walnut. Bob
I have a GN Critter Gitter with Walnut limbs and an Oak riser and tips, very classy look.
Osage does fade I wonder if yellowheart will keep its color better if you like the yellow contrast.
Walnut, Myrtle, black glass
I rather like walnut and fiddleback maple on my Lost Creek Judge.

Walnut and osage is sweet, but so is walnut and bloodwood or walnut and purple heart. Walnut with maple is very nice but many don't want such a stark contrast.
Most anything would look good with it as long as there is enough contrast in either grain and/or color to noticelbly separate the two without great examination.
good luck, bigjim
Big Jim would know!

My vote goes to Osage. I have put a lot of thought in to what woods would be in my next bow and I have come down to walnut and osage.
If you go with walnut and tigerwood you will retain the orange color much better than with sage. I love the walnut and tigerwood combo and hae used it several times.
God bless, Steve
Sixby, I have to agree with you. That's walnut and tigerwood on the lower bow.

To many choices. Anybody have pics of bow with olive burl? Thank you.
Maple is in my opinion the perfect contrast to walnut. Fiddleback, curly, birdseye, tiger stripe, or just plain clear maple ... you're pick
Well I made my mind up. I am going with walnut and osage riser. Cory (heartland bows) is building a 3 piece for me. Will post pics when down. Thanks for suggestions.
One of the prettiest recurves I have seen was an old Rocky Mountain Recuve walnut with Purpleheart..... I wish I would have bought one back then.
I have a birdseye maple and black walnut and looks nice.

The rocky's weren't walnut, the were rosewood. I still have 2 originals. One rosewood/maple, one rosewood/purpleheart.
Elk Antler Riser goes good!

Steve Turay from Northern Mist built me one of his Ottowa recurves.
Walnut dymondwood riser and white ash limbs.
What a looker!

Lonewolf that is an inredible looking bow!
I'd probably go with one of the following
Light contrast:
figured maple or figured myrtle
Dark reddish contrast:
cocobolo or snakewood
Similar colors:
wenge or ebony (one of the darker varieties)
Curly maple
