I've always used one piece longbows but want to add a three piece to my collection. Have zero experience with 3 piece longbows. Open to suggestions... currently I am considering proghorn or a tolke but I am open to any other quality 3 pice longbow. WOuld appreciate your feedback... wanting a little more mass wieght to help steady my bow arm. 45-50# @ 28.5 inches. Thanks
Dave
There are plenty of good ones. I like my Pronghorn.
Well, since you mentioned it, I really like my Pronghorn three piece. I had two other one piece pronghorns and I sold those to pay for the three piece- and some other stuff also. I like the increased weight of the three piece.
I would also look at a Kota three piece as well, it is on my back burner to purchase. Just not sure which one.
Lots more good ones I am sure.
Why not consider a 2 pieces longbow?
I sure love mines

If I were in the market for a 3-piece LB, I would absolutely get a Cari-bow Silver Fox. No question. I was very impressed with the one I shot multiple sessions with at the Kalamazoo show this past spring.
I have also spent some time with a 3-piece ACS longbow (it's hanging in my basement now), and am very pleased with it. Good bow, with a bit heavier mass weight.
How about a 2-piece? Big Jim, ACS, Black Widow, and others make some great 2-piece LBs. And the no-tools TD is great... my 2-piece comes apart and goes together in a flash.
I want a three piece for the added mass weight in the riser.
I love my Bezaleel three piece longbow. Andy McCoy is fantastic to work with.
Pronghorn or Great Plains are on my list of good ones....

Firefly. Lots of good bows, but I can't imagine a bow with better shooting qualities than this one.
Leon Stewart Slammer. Quality and finish is top of the heap, they are very smooth and Leon is a true gent to work with.
Another vote for the ACS from A&H.
Pronghorn
I went for several years under the same mindset of required mass. In the end, form worked up my confidence. Carrying a two or one piece in the woods or up a mountain is a dream in comparison. Just saying...
When I thought this way I shot a few and a compiled list of excellent take-down LB's, not in any order of preference:
Thunderhorn Heartstopper
Cari-Bow Silverfox
Toelke Lynx
Pronghorn
Stewart Slammer
Not a form issue - more of a bad bow elbow that doesn't react to bow shock well. It is more noticiable in latter years and when shooting longbows as compared to recurves.
Stalker sticksbows coyote longbow. 60" 44lbs@28"

I heard Brian Wessel at Tall Tines is putting out a 3-peice longbow that's fast as well as a real looker,,Might be worth enquiring about. Just thought I would mention it :archer2:
The A&H ACS CX 2 pc or 3 pc is tough to beat. My son and I have several and don't see that changing any time soon. The team at A&H they all hunt, and are very committed to customer satisfaction.
For me it is more the way the riser/grip fit my hand than the mass of the riser. For me the Pronghorn is the best fitting and shooting longbow.
I like my Kota Prairie Nomad. It is 64", which if I remember right, was a special order, as 62" is standard.
another vote for the Cari-bow Silver Fox.
I have a Firefly and just ordered a K-2 from Hill Country. Both good bows!
I've had a couple of Toelke Lynx, exceptional bows.
I love my Leon Stewart three-piece Slammer.
As for the A&H ACS longbows, I prefer the one-piece because it has a lower grip than the three-piece.
many good ones out there...IF you are interested in a Lynx i might be willing to sell mine. Beautiful bow and shoots incredible, just purchased too many bows and need to think about getting rid of one or two. PM me if interested (bow is like new)
mike
I just got a Stalker Coyote and it shoots fast and hard. Love it! Scott Mitchell's TimberHawk 2-Piece longbow is awesome. I shot one for years.
Both of your choices have little or no perceived hand shock. You will be happy with either. I'm a Toelke fanatic though
Cari-bow Silver Fox
Leon Stewart Slammer
Pronghorn
Do not have one yet...but everyone I talk to loves Leon Stewart Slammers...
I've had a couple of Toelke Lynx, exceptional bows.
I like ACS 3-piece TDs. Small risers, but still sufficient mass. Very fast and stable.
blackcreek siren is an excellent bow
I think it would be hard to beat a Hummingbird. In my opinion Ben's three piece longbow is the best bow that he builds. Thats what I would be shooting if I was still shooting rd bows. God bless, Scott.
3pc STEWART SLAMMER!! Sorry, I'm just a big advocate.
Why not order an RER LXR and have the best of both worlds, a set of longbow limbs and a set of static tip recurve limbs...mine is my go-to bow
I love the 3pc bows by Mark Horne. I have three of his and five sets of limbs that cover all bases. You can also get recurve and/or longbow limbs if you wish. They are great shooters and can be as simple or as fancy as you wish.
Ron
My favorite 3 piece longbows are Morrison Shawnee and ILF's. Smooth and fast.
Neil Jacobsen's Bears Paw Carbon Hunter T/D longbow is THE top shelf product. Neil has mastered carbon technology and is just a fine guy. He has bowhunting trophies from every mountain-top in North America and can read your mind when consulting with you. If you want a great experience, top to bottom, call Neil. If you are looking for just another bow, someone else will suffice
My Zipper Nitro is just awesome!!!
Found a Cari Bow on classified and went with that. Thanks for all the input.
Dave, after you shoot the Cari Bow for a while, I would like to know how you like it.
Black Canyon by Mike Hays.
Take a look at the Tomahawk Bows Legacy series. It is a really great shooting bow. I had one for about a year and just found 3 piece longbows aren't for me. It really shot well though.
Leon Stewart Slammer 3 piece, excellent bow, hits where you looking and works of art.
Take a look at a Timberghost. Love mine. Great bow and Kent Roberts is a top notch guy. God bless.

Actually mass riser weight has little to do with hand shock brutha... getting the limbs timed and balanced to the pressure point in the grip is the key.... getting the whole limb working together and getting those limbs stopping clean is critical too...... if you want the best of both worlds in in a little extra riser mass, and still have a one piece. you could try a Flatliner with a solid G-10 phenolic or ebony riser, like these.

I have a northern mist Witbeck I like a lot.
bezaleel " real mccoy" the best i've ever shot and then a stewart slammer.
My Sarrels Blueridge longbow is my go-to bow.

Give him a look; he is a TradGang sponsor. http://www.sarrelsarchery.com/

Love the lines on your Flatliner bows Kirk -- and they smoke an arrow.
Pronghorn.
It is tough to beat a TD PRONGHORN.
I finally got one in April 2013 and wondered why I waited so long...it is a SHOOTER!!!
Shoot straight, Shinken
:archer2:
I have a 3 piece sasquatch and a 3 piece hummingbird, both awesome bows!
A&H ACS with Phenolic riser, it is fast smooth and quiet, oh ya just plain sweet!!!
3 pcs sasquatch...as dead in the hand as you can get.
Leon Stewart slammer, nice mass in riser cut to center for easy tuning, hit where you look. Fast
After getting my Toelke Whip, I'm thinking I'll need one of his two-piece Whips too. So quiet, so little hand shock I don't notice it. Fast and deadly accurate. I love my bow! (GEEZ!!! I sound like that dog in the "I love my bank" ad!)
striker tdl is the way to go have 2 of them
Have had several-listing a Morrison Shawnee for sale now--would have to give my vote to Ben Graham and Hummingbird 3 piece longbows-awsome bows that fit me. Thanks, Roy
zip..zip..zip..zip..ZIPPER !!! Bills carbon/foam longbow limbs are silky smooth and fassst!
Hey Dave,
Looks like you have a lot of good recommendations. I like a one piece myself. So, From my point of view, and experience, you need to pick your favorite grip on one of your one piece bows, and what ever bowyer you choose to build your three piece, make sure he can duplicate that grip. If you don't I promise you, you won't be happy. Been there, done that.
Good Luck
New to trad archery, but have had the privilege to shoot all my friends bows they have and ended up with a Treadway Black Rock 3 piece I bought from a fellow tradgang member. And love it.
Another VOTE for the Firefly Longbow by Jim Jones. I have owned a myriad of longbows but the the two Fireflys I currently have are the best 3 piece longbows I've had the privilege of shooting. My 55 lb. (@28) Firefly will launch a 580 gr. arrow at 190 fps. at my draw length of 29 1/2". The multitude of deer and two bears I've taken have all been complete pass-throughs. The second Firefly I own is a 36lb. target bow that's laid claim to a state and sectional title. One of the best quality of build for dollars spent. Fireflys are sold through Brave Heart Archery.

Legends, best out there!
You will find that each bowyer has a following. Many times it is regional. Many times the archer knows the bowyer personally. Truth is most of the good bowyers out there have great products and will stand behind the bows they make. You are from TX, I'd look around your local. I shoot a Bob Lee 3p and love it for my hunting bow. I also shoot a River Raisin 3p cause I know Tom Moran and he's a super guy. Has the best bow for the money and stands behind it.Use that bow at all the summer shoots. You really can't go wrong w/ a quality bow maker.
BTW, I had to give up my one piece too because of tennis elbow. Feel your pain...LOL
Did you know Big Jim also makes 3-piece longbows? I have one, mine is fantastic in every way!
If you can find a 3 peice thunderhorn heartstopper I would highly reccomend it.
Andy McCoy from Bezaleel Bows makes a great TD riser that is available in different lenghts with recurve and/or longbow limbs.
Lots of material and grip options.
I like his bows very much.
Of course I recommend my own. However I really like the Sasquatches and Hills Bobcat too. There are a ton of really good three piece longbows out there and they are all great shooters.
God bless, Steve
I have a big Jim 3 peice and she is my go to bow I really love it. I have not shot a legends but from everything I hear they sound like a good bow I had a lost creek 3 peice and she was a shooter for.sure and they are priced good as well
