Starting to do some serious daydreaming about the high country and bugling bulls . Any one else?
We never stop!
They are the critters that make me put on my running shoes even though it feels almost too hot and humid to be outside. Less than three months until I get back into the WY mountains and can't stop thinking about it. Many more miles to run and arrows to fling until then though.
HA. I ran this morning its what I use for motivation too.
Always! I will be going in the next few years.
Me too. Hiked the local mountain twice this weekend to make sure the boots are well broken in and would not give me any issues...all is well.
Waiting for September in Wyoming and the three other Tradgangers.
I moved to Colorado seven years ago when I retired from the Navy so I'd always be ready to go, lol! 8-10k ft don't seem so bad when you live at over 5k ft!
Bugling bulls yes. High country no. I hunt on the coast, elevation 200 to 2000 ft.
But I am begining to feel the rut coming on.
John
My first elk trip will be this September. Shooting, working out and reading/watching everything I can find!! Mike
It never ends. And god willing it never will.
Always.
I've still got some weight to drop and need to get my lungs in better shape... as I will be packing in to about 10,500' and hunting from there. I live at 600'.
Since I've retired, I'm trying to make this an annual hunt for as long as my body and billfold holdout!
Good luck all!!!!!!!!

Your a coasty eh
I bumped a herd of 20-25 elk a week ago near a spring I was going to hang a trailcam on. A little spike and yearling cow let me walk to within 35-40 ft before an older cow spotted me and barked. Only two months till the season begins here in Oregon!
I have already been seeing a lot of elk this spring. It is making it hard to focus anything but the upcoming season. Come on August 17!!
Heading out the last weekend of August to CO with some hardcore guys. This will be an awesome hunt. Shooting and running every day.
I plan on being 2 days hike into the weimenchuce Aug. 30.

headed back to the west elk wildrness, be my second year to hunt there.
WY for me. Everyday I get a little more fit. 85 days left!
Always. Wished I lived in an elk state. Ohhhh, yes, we have wild elk in WI, but not enough to hunt yet. I would love to be one of the first traditional hunters in the state to kill a native elk with stick and string. Imagine all the wheel & bullet guys I'll have to compete against for a harvest permit :banghead:
We only have about 250 animals or so...I hope it was a successful calving spring.
Kris
Wapiti792, where did ya draw?
Started my daydreaming over a year ago. Ordered a new Dale Dye bow for my first ever DIY Colorado elk hunt this coming September. Needed a little more power than my deer woods bow. Been shooting, walking, running and working stair wells for months now.
Have to thank all the previous posters for all the great information here, been searching and reading all I can on this subject.
Wyoming elk for me also! area 38, hope there are still a few big ones left up there, been a few years since I shot a elk.
I'm another coastal hunter but I'm surrounded by the buggers year round so they are never out of my mind for long.
I think elk hunting will be a dream for me again this year. A move, house hunting, job hunting, family obligations, etc. At least I'll be able to tag along with my brother as he's chasing a bighorn ram!
I'm off on my first elk hunt this year, been running and shooting everyday but living in the flat lands (Kansas)still not sure I'm in good enough shape for 8,000-10,000 ft. Life long dream so I can't wait.
Making plans now for my September Colorado hunt - it consumes my mind!
Adam and I are all set to hunt with our friends in UT again this year! It is going to be stellar; there will be a few PBS Youths joining us in camp. :archer2:
looking forward to my 47th stright season...spent the weekend checking out a new (old) area that i haven't hunted since 96...killed my biggest bull there that year and this weekend found his little brother dead close to a wallow about 300 yards from where i killed my 7x7...this one was a 7x7 but not overly huge but still big enough to get the dreaming started...
anyone want to post pics for me let me know.
This will be my first, heading to ID, for the month of September, l hope I ain't too old.
Hey Chris, when are you two heading home from Australia? I finally met Paul Nelson at one of the Wenatchi River trad shoots. We're starting our scouting next week over near Yakima, so it's coming!!!
