I was lucky enough to find a 3 month old Kempf Kwyk Styk,
and have a few questions for those who own or have owned
one of these great bows. The specs of mine are 56" 47@28
I currently have the bow braced at 7.5" and the nock set
at 5/8" per previous posts. Seems to shoot very well, so
this appears to be a good start. The questions I have are:
1) Anyone shoot a SBD string on theirs, if so what length,
number of strands ,and what were the results?
2) Arrows that worked well: model, weight, spine, ect...
3)Anything else that might help.
Really looking to put a lot of arrows through this one and
hopefully take a Mule Deer with it this fall. Thanks for any
and all help before hand. I'll post some pics this weekend.
I've always used SBD strings on my bows except my KS. I found the string that Jack sent with mine to be very pleasing and have never found the need to switch.
I shoot 58@28 on my KS with 35/55 GT blems. They are 30" long with 250 up front. Shoots like darts for me.
You will find the KS to be one of the most "shootable" bows you will lay your hands on. Everything one could ask for in a bow.
Bill congrats on your find. Goes to show you they're out there. Patience and timing.
I make my own strings from TS plus. Very happy with the performance and also how quiet the shot is.But
I have been toying with trying D10 on the KwykStyk, after shooting one of Pierre's SBD string he made for another one of my bows.
As for brace height I shoot mine right at 7",works well for me.
Bill do you shoot split or 3 under?
Nocking point would vary on the two styles.
For arrows I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a shaft that flies well, whatever the material. I personally are shooting EFOC carbons and love the flight and penetration I get from them.
Good luck Bill with your new Toy
Enjoy
Mo
I always told my customers to shoot TS-1 strings. I have them on my Kempf Longbow and Stealth. Not sure who makes them now...might also try 450+. That's what I'm going to try on both bows.
Good luck with the bow...a great find.
Jack's strings work well for me, braced at 7 1/4" nock 1/2". Very user friendly Bow!
Thanks for all the help, everyone.
Mo , I shoot split.
I have some Gold Tip Traditionals 35-55 I'll be trying
today.
Bill you should have no problem getting that bow shooting quiet as a mouse, especially shooting split.
Although I personally prefer to shoot a heavy grain per pound arrows, the KwykStyk seems to shoot even a lightweight arrow fairly quietly.
Those Gold Tips are a great way to start.
Pics of Bill's SAWEEEEET Styk. Photobucket is giving me fits.

Thanks for posting those Eric, you'll be shooting her soon.
We might have to arm wrestle....I cheat... :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Probably the easiest bow to shoot and tune that you'll ever own....I love mine and have shot them almost exclusively since '97.
Both of mine I shoot at about 7 5/8-7 3/4"....I've shot them well down to 7 1/4"....but notice a bit more noise down there. If there's a difference in speed between the lower to higher brace hight range I can't see a difference...but the quietness and shoot-ability I get at the higher brace is what I like.
For me...there's nothing like a Kwyk Styk!!
Curt
Thanks for the help. I'm tuning it right now will give the higher
brace a try.
Bill
Bill does that bow look familiar...
Looks like a twin to mine. Awesome Zebrawood
Great find!!!
Mo
congrats on the bow, it sure is a looker!!!
The Zebra wood looks much better in person
Deeper and darker grain.
Nice bow. At that weight you could go super skinny with one of Pierre's 6 strands or for a little thicker 8 strand.
Call jack and ask him for yourself. Great guy and will be willing to help.
