I have been practicing my flemish string making on B-50 for 6 months or so. I bought some D97 and I want to make some strings for my Toelke Whip and Revcurve. Both around 50#.
I have Halo .024 as well on hand. I shoot Trad Onlys and CE Heritage.
Any formula's i.e. strand count, padding that has worked well for a good for you?

I dont have a formula but you could make like a 12" test string and serv it and test the nock fit.
D97 is pretty strong so you have a lot of flexibilty in strand count to get the right nock fit ...
12 strands of D97 with .024 Halo should fit your nocks perfectly.
I like to pad the loops to 16.
why over build a string and sap performance to get nock fit?
i use an 8 strand D97 on my 57# bow and double serve with no4 nylon then lightly sand the nocks to fit.
For my hybrids in the 50# range I like 10 strands of D97 padded to 16 in the loops and currently use braided .018 serving (better to be a little loose on the nock than too tight). I prefer a tight twist in the string and double nock points, usually tied on. Not a fan of extreme string setups...i.e. 'big fat' strings or spiderweb strings...and my bows seem to like that middle ground approach just fine. For B-50 on my Hills I'll add a few strands...12 or 14 makes a good string.
Not sure of the diameter difference but I build both 8125 and D10 strings for bows from 48-60 with 8 strands and padded to 16 or maybe 18. Your serving may be a little loose but you can build that up with extra material like dental floss or left over D97 to get an exact fit and of course a top and bottom nocking point. I like to coat my serving with gel Super Glue, rubbed in with plastic wrap. Cures any problem with serving coming loose. Wax the remainder of your string like normal though and rub it in with a piece of leather.
I'm not a professional string maker so YMMV.
Same as A.S. for me, except I pad my loops to 18.
I do the same as A.S as well and agree with his assessment. 12 strands is probably a little more than you need, but anything less than 12 strands is so thin it scares me to look at it. I pad to 16 to 18 depending on the bow I'm making them for.

Out of curiosity, have you chronographed your bow(s) to see the difference? I'm going to guess 2-4 fps difference...maybe--between 8 and 12 strands. If you have to build up your serving, double-serve, etc. then you are adding a big portion of the weight you "saved" right back to the string, and in the most crucial point.

I like to build mine skinny (8-10 strands) and just add serving between the nocks to get the nock fit I want. Saves time and weight. I find it makes a quieter string too.

x2 on what LBR said - through a chrono 8-12 strand speed difference will be 1-2fps - not worth the worry - especially when you are putting weight back into the center of the string and likely gaining zero fps.

I made a 12 strand, padded to 16 at the loop. This thing is way quieter. I feel like I nailed it.
