Who shoots wood arrows? I'm want to make my own woodies this year to hunt with instead of buying pre-made carbons. I would love to see pics of everybody's wood arrows.
It is all we use. These are my elk, hog, 3d arrows-this batch is Doug Fir. Victory if you feel like making the trip to Los Gatos I'll be glad to help get you set up.
Yeah I might have to take you up on that if I can make it up there! Thanks.
Forgot the pic..............

Wow fantastic I wish I could dabble like that :clapper: :clapper:
I didn't make this I'm not that talented. Snag made the first ones and Ray put this up on the St Jude auction on the next pictures.

Wolfshead, really like those orange arrows! Is that a stain and if it is what did you use?
I do - look at the wood arrow thread on here - I could not find it - had a slideshow - someone say ORANGE

Call Surewood Steve...these tapered Doug Fir are some of the finest shafts I've seen. Consistent in weight and straightness.
Wolfshead if I can dabble half as well as you I will be happy! These are all great looking. Thanks for the pics guys.
I'm in-Hap
There is a few of us that do...

I have been shooting some woods through my Hill bow for a few months. Now I'm in the process of getting supplies to make them sexy.... NOTHING is as quiet or flies like good wood arrows imho. I think I'm becoming a wood guy for life !
Surewood shafts that I put a 10 inch nock taper on and used turkey feathers I ground:

I made a dozen douglas fir with natural turkey fletching stained a solid color with no cresting...mounted 190 Ribteks on them and they are going to be my hunting arrows this year. About to make another dozen flu-flus using 4" full height fletching on ash shafts...but the shafts became crooked while I was staining and sealing so need to straighten before I fletch them up and mount mix of small game heads and old broadheads. not taken pictures of these yet. :)

I shoot woodies too. I play around with al. and carbon, and they shoot well, but wood just has a magnetism that will not turn me loose.
I shoot wood too. I like Douglas Fir, Chundoo, and S. Spruce. I also like aluminum and some carbon, but there is just something about making, shooting and hunting with your own wooden arrows..... ;)
I just started shooting Surewood douglas fir and I really like them. Going to run them for elk this fall. Might switch back to carbon after the season since they are much lighter, but boy I'm having fun with these.
Surewood fan here.

That is all I shoot. I'm working on some footed arrows now. Will post pics when they are finished. Those are beautiful footed arrows meathead.
If I had not met Green, I would have probrably never known the joys of wood arrows. I would also still be content the mediocre tuning I get out of carbons.
Working on a set of birch now. Be my first set, hope they last.
Wow, some great looking arrows here! I just ordered a dozen woodies from Mr. Jalon at Elite Arrows. I'll post pics when they arrive.
Great stuff guys! Thinking about ordering some surewoods to make my first set.
Snag uses Surewoods to make some fine arras

Shoot straight, Shinken

After finally shooting a few wood arrows that I bought off this years auction, I just ordered two trial arrows from snag. I think I am hooked for life.
Problem is how does one choose from his options, WOW!
Re-discovered woodies this year for all of my shooting. In the past, I'd shoot carbons for 3D season and then convert and hunt with wood, but this year I've begun to shoot wood for everything.
Since 1975 I've shot wood and aluminum both. I've always thought that a good quality tapered wood arrow is the most forgiving shaft material, still today.
