Title: early '70's Bear Kodiak Hunter Question
Post by: Wannabe1 on June 16, 2013, 11:50:00 PM
Anyone know what the string length and brace height would be for an early '70's Bear Kodiak Hunter. Bow is 60"? Will it handle D97?

56" will work on that bow. Whether or not you can use D97 is up to you. Lotsa' people will have differing opinions. Here is what I suggest: if you will be major bummed if the bow were to fail go with Dacron.

8" give or take.

Those  are great bows!

56" string if you are using Dacron. If you decide to try a FF string, it will need to be a bit longer.

I'm going to stick with dacron. Thansk for all the replies. I appreciate all the wisdom and guidance from you more experienced tradgangers!      :D

B-50 or B-55.....I wouldn't use FF on an early 70's bow.

Ron, I don't remember but, what was the difference between the B50 and the B55?

B-55 is just the modern version of a Dacron string material. It's by BCY I think!

Thanks, I got a PM into Josh (Oliverstacy) and will get B-55. Do I need 14 strand or 16 strand? Never can figure all this string crap out!

Bearbowman @ First Class Flemish strings makes a darn good B-50 string and knows a lot about Bear Archery Bows. Check his web site out for the colors, he is a sponsor. Only problem is it takes a while to get the string. I have his B-50 strings on all my older Bears. I would not use fast-flight.

Thanks Mike but, I get all my strings from Josh. He's a Sponsor also and I've had great dealings with him. Plus, his strings get to me pretty fast!

Just got a response from Josh and he's going to make me up a 56" B-55 dacron Brown/Green w/.019 black halo serving. WhooHooo, got the green and brown to match the color of the bow.   :bigsmyl:
