Title: New(to me) KT44, advice needed
Post by: sar on August 30, 2007, 09:41:00 PM
#1) Does anyone know the recommended brace height?  This is an original KT from the 90's.

#2)  Are these fast flight compatible bows?

#3)  When I shoot this, the feathers slice my bowhand because the grip makes it so I'm almost shooting off my hand.  I'm thinking of putting a cheap flipper style rest on this bow to get the fletching off my hand.  Given its short length, will this change tiller too much?  I'm really only going for 1/3 of an inch or so.

I'll be taking pics and posting in a different thread when I get some time.  Very cool little bow.

I've got a JT 44 mag, and the brace hieght on mine is a little over 9". Mine does the same thing, the feathers cut my hand some times. I turned the nock a little and stopped that.
Mine isn't fastflight. They are nice little bows!  :archer:

What's the max draw length on a short little bow like that? I love the short bows, and have thought of maybe trying to find one but with a 30" draw I wondered if I should bother?

I love the looks of that bow BTW. You know instantly what it is, it's so unique.

A dab of glue on the tips of the quills will stop them from cutting your hand.

The arrow doesn't turn before leaving the bow (it can't - the nock prevents that) so you only need to fix the lower hen feather. Trim it with a razor blade, put a drop of glue on it, and when the glue is almost dry use a field tip as a rolling pin to flatten it.

I hope you all still respect me after I cheat and put a bear weatherrest on it!   :)

Guess I'll find out if it screws up the tiller!

Heh.  I already use a cavalier on my black swan.  All my other bows are off the shelf.
This little bow is very cool.

Try it cock-feather in. It'll stop contact between the lower hen-feather & your hand & has improved my own arrow flight beyond belief!

I would love to see one of those bows in person. I've seen several posts in that last year or so from people looking for the bowyer. He might be out of business. Congrats on the purchase but, you have one major obligation left.....PICTURES!  :saywhat:

Rob...Veni Vidi Velcro....that's brilliant!

Yup.  Little Suckling has continued with another bowyer other than Kiko Tovar.  Don't remember his last name but his first name's John and he has an ad in TBM.

This bow is an original from Kiko Tovar, so it's about 13 or so years old.  Working today, but tomorrow I'll get some pics and post them.

I believe Shultz may be his last name. I saw a new one at the Muzzy and I know the guy who bought it down there owns a local archery shop. I did not shoot it but I know I can go there and Mario will let me take it for a test drive. Shawn
