I've never been completely spooled out of line on my AMS before but this leviathan did it in about 3 seconds. Weighed just under 60#. My personal largest so far.
Glad I bought a chest freezer because I got enough fish meat to open up my own Captain D's. Also filleted out a few gar for the boiling pot. Nothing big, just good 36" eating size.
Hope these pics are sized correctly. I recently switched to imgur and still learning to use it.

Amazing beasts!! Congrats! :archer:
Do you need a tag in Oklahoma? I shot about a 30 pounder last year here in SD. I will try to post some pic's tonight of my fish and my rope burned fingers. It usually takes about 2 years to draw a tag here. We had snagging tags this year, caught 3 over 70 pounds. Great fun also.
Great spoonie
Spoonbill is really good smoked. Nice fish

We gots to have a paddlefish permit with us, yes. We can download them free off the inter web tho.
My buddy has been trying to get me to go with him the last couple times he has gone. Its hard to get away at night with a new born but I might have to make a deal with momma for something like that
Awesome....
Nice fish! When I lived in OK my neighbor used to snag them and was going to cook some up for me but we never got together so I have yet to try spoonbill. I think he called them paddlefish. Can you educate me as to the title of your thread? There's a couple words there I am not familiar with. Congrats!
not sure if im more impressed with the fish or the fact that you can hoist that beast like it's a guppy!! awesome pic
wow!!!! nice fish congrats :clapper: :clapper: :archer2:
Congratulation, those are nice. Did you save the skins? I always figured they would look good on the back of a bow.
Fine fish Cam. Never seen nothing like the first one.RC

Chondrostei = cartilaginous fish such as paddlefish and sturgeons
Rostrum = beak or snout

Beautiful fish!!! Fine eating too!!!

From Wikipedia
Leviathan is a sea monster referenced in the Tanakh, or the Old Testament. The word has become synonymous with any large sea monster or creature

No, I didn't save the skins. Wouldn't have any idea how to preserve them. I have seen them backed on a selfbow. Fella at OJAM had one backed with grasscarp skins and another with spoonbill skin.
Awesome
Now that is a Fish. I bet he put up a good fight.

Ain't you ever boiled gar fillets? After you skin em, boil the meat with a crab/seafood boil seasoning. About 5 minutes. I like to serve it with rice and beans. Or corn on the cob. It'll change your life. Its good fried too.
Very nice
That's some fine eating right there! Used to have a friend of my dad that snagged for spoonbill. When he got lucky and ended up with more than he could eat, he'd bring the extras to us. Hard to beat a "steak" cut from one of those ugly suckers.
Those are just cool looking fish. Congrats!
Cool stuff
Paddle fish are an interesting creature of North America. They are filter feeders, which is why they allow them to be snagged. Like sharks they have no bones, but cartiladge, hence the Latin reference. They have an exstensive lateral line of darkish meat that is removed. The main meat is flakey and white and delicous deep fried. Almost the halibut of the lower 48 interior
Unfortunately, the roe from these fish is highly prized by a certain culture. Your guess as to what culture... Therefore poaching of spawning fish has skyrocketed in the last couple decades. Fish being found discarded with bellies cut and roe removed for sale on the blackmarket.
These are a very special fish of this Country.
Hadn't seen anyone post anything about them so thought I would share what I have known of them. My late grandfather would go snag paddlefish every year. Actually made the paper for a fish over 70#'s
