Howdy fellas,
I was wondering what's your favorite type of bow to shoot, i.e. recurve, longbow, hybrid, etc. and why?
-
D/R (or hybrid) longbow, good performance, low handshock and still looks like a longbow. My Toelke Whip is by far my favorite!
-
Just about anything that meets my specs.I have a bunch of different stuff and I like it all!
-
LONG longbow, 66"-70", at comfortable draw weight, locator grip of some type, could be either a hybrid that still looks close to a D or a mild reflex-deflex D shape or Hill, all three have their particular charm.
I enjoy the length for reasons of stability..length and mass adds inertia which keeps things settled, and string angle around the string-hand fingers is low. Longer bows just give me a cleaner release. There's also just something about a bow that's almost as tall as you are.
Performance standouts to me in the category I described come from Leon Stewart, Toelke, 21st Century, Holm-made, and David Miller, but there are so many others.
-
My first trad bow was a 3 piece Hornes Mountain bow. Awesome shooter. Now my hands down go to bow is my Thunderstick MAG. I have never been able to shoot a D style bow to save my neck. So I'll say R/D longbows and recurves.
-
I like them all . I like to play with all my toys.
-
I like shooting them all,I started out shooting longbows only. But I like shooting some of my recurves very much.If I was to pick one it would be my longbows.
-
a fedora !!!! no just kidding. my all time bow a horse bow 48'' nock to nock 50# oh man they are so quick
-
The one in my hand at the time! launching arrows is fun, made all the better when I hit something, lol.
-
I like the foreward riser Frontier 66 string follow better than any bow I ever shot .Its not a speed demon compared to the D and Rs and Static Recurves but its pleanty fast and a pure joy to shoot. In fact I got to get me one. I worked Glenns out real good before I sent it off to him.
God Bless you all, Steve

Vintage recurves that have been restored.

I prefer the American Semi -longbows. More specifically the JD Berry Morningstar right now. It too is a forward riser bow and there is just something unique about that design
-
I have shot recurves.hybrids,R/D longbows & D shaped longbows. I have around a 26" draw and have found that I shoot mild R/D longbows between 64"-66" the best(performance & accuracy). The model I shoot now is a 64"Robertson Purist 58@26" I would give ANYTHING if Jerry Brumm from Great Northern would start making Critter Gitter's again. I'd order a 64" model the second he said he'd start making them !!!
-
I'm mostly shooting ILF recurves but lately I've been shooting a 64" 57@28 Zebra longbow alot
-
shot longbows for years, now shoot a 58" 51# recurve....fits me well and I seem to shoot it better. Love them all though.
-
Picked up a Wes Wallace Royal a couple months back, 66" and 60# at my 29" draw. I shoot it better than any recurve I ever shot.
-
Long bows are my favorite by far. Self bows are the most fun to shoot and play with.
-
It changes monthly, weekly and daily...last couple day's i'm on a recurve kick. Chances are come fall hunting season. i'll be back to my favorite mild 64" R/d...It's one dog-gone lethal hunting bow..seems to never miss.
-
Got to be my Liberty Edge, smooth and quick.
-
Longbows and static recurves. Just something about launching an arrow quietly.
-
Old Bear recurves!!! Grizzlys specificly...
I started bowhunting back in the 1970's with an old 50# Bear Alaskan. Had quite a few old Bears after that. The old Bear recurves bring back so many fond memories!!!!!
-
Hill longbows. I own a bunch of others, but they generally remain indoors.
-
Pretty much any type of longbows
-
50s style recurves in general and Toelke Chinooks in particular.
-
We really like our E.B. Holcomb reborn Drakes and Kodiaks. Also the BBO longbow by Roy of Pa. Great shooters.

My favorite bow is a Black Widow MA-3 recurve.
-
MOAB
-
I just got a Maddog R/D longbow, shoots so sweet, and fast too. Love it!
-
66"-68" mild R/D longbows.
I shoot recurves better but my longbows are just so cool!
-
In the past 4 years I have spent just over 20,000 trying to find the best of the best. The only two I have not compared to my current inventory is the Centuar and the Habu Vyperkahn.
The JD Berry Argos, and the Toelke Whip are the best of the best! Why you ask? Because the are quick, smooth, quite, no hand shock, dead in hand, shoot where you look, and easy to tune. Bowyers are pretty much the same to deal with, quick, smooth and no hand shock.

Anything out of Dan Toelke's shop
-
I have 20 bows and like to shoot them all. But I have to say I'm a recurve man mostly. My goto bow is my Pittsley Predator.
-
I agree with you on the Predator Recurve. I have had just about every recurve made. The best shooting and most accurate hunting recurve I have ever shot, or my friends have shot is the Predator. There are prettier bows out there but they don't shoot like a Predator.
-
Hill style. Quietest, most forgiving, most versatile design. Unfortunately not the fastest, until you get into hunting weight arrows where they perform at their peak.
-
Right now I am loving most things ILF. I really like the mix n match options,if risers and limbs. My current favorite combo is an Excel riser and winnex limbs, but I have some BF extremes to try out when I get a string for them.
-
Out of all the bows Ive owned or tried.....Im a 3 pc hybrid long bow guy for sure. Absolutely love my Zipper Nitro!
-
Of all the bows I've owned in my life (wheels and sticks) I'd have to say it would be the old Kodiak Mag (rh, 50 lb) that my fathers best friend gave me when I was 14. Not a day goes by that I don't think of it...took my first bull moose with it in Alaska at 15...Lost it when my father went to prison...aunt got power of attorney, and all was sold. But That, is for sure my favorite.
-
hybred long bows are my favorite but enjoy shooting the all
-
The one in my hand at the time. :biglaugh:
But given a choice, a mild r/d that strings to a "D" shape
-
Anything with a static tip from Merrill Wisconsin :archer2:
-
I've settled down with my signature bows and enjoy shooting them all. Definitely thinking about a 50s style curve though. Shooting different bows seems to help keep me out of a form rut, and it's just plain fun.
-
Out of all the bows I've owned over the years, recurves and longbows, my favorites are listed below.
-
Longbows in general, Hill style and ELB specifically.
-
I like them all but go towards longbows
-
My vixen
-
R/D Longbow with a pistol grip. Best combo of performance and silent shooting.
-
Semi-aggressive deflex/reflex longbow like Tomahawks, and Black Widow PL's.
-
Longbows for me, mostly hybrids!
-
For Hunting I like a 60" hybrid long bow.
For target shooing I prefer a recurve with a smooth draw.
For 3D I love em all....
