Really nice! And I'm sure it's a great shooter. No doubt that Steve is a gifted bowyer. He made me a Storm Eagle that's, by far, the best shooting bow that I've ever shot, and I've shot a bunch. Congrats and enjoy!

Congratulations!

Nice looking bow there Brutha Steve.   :clapper:    :clapper:

What kind of string material is your string builder using? Mike said it has a lot lower tone to it than the D 97 he's got on that new SS....

Alright I got some time with this bow today....and I will give you my first impressions.

The first thing I have to say is that this bow is VERY quiet - I can't believe how quiet this bow is. Might be the quietest bow I have ever shot and it is not tuned yet. Impressive.

The second is speed - this bow is so fast that I don't have any arrows that are the right spine. I need to get stiffer arrows - normally all my bows in this weight range are 400 spine at my 30" draw. Not this one - turns my 400's into wet noodles!! So I need to so some work AFTER I find some arrows.   I believe this bow will be over 200 fps!

I cannot assess accuracy cause I cannot get arrows to work - but I can say from the other talon that I have is that I can shoot 3" groups at 30 yards with that bow. I expect this bow will be no different.

We can all see how beautiful this bow is but I have to add that the fit and finish is very nice. Steve takes ever detail to the next level.  In fact he really wanted to do more with this bow and I had to hold him back - he would have done more to fancy it up ( as he would say).

However all that being said the absolute best part of this bow is the friendship I gained working with Steve!  He is great to work with and I highly recommend you guys give one of his bows a try. You will get a one of a kind bow and get to work with one of the best in trad archery.

I will get some more details when I get some new arrows

Mike

Duncan:A very beautiful bow, almost too pretty to even hunt
Don't let looks fool you  Bro. These bows are first and foremost a hunting bow. Beauty does not effect that in any way. If it did then I would build ugly bows. Thanks for the complement. the only reason I answered this is that I have heard the pretty bow but how does it shoot a lot of times. Problem is when I have built and offered base bows with actionwood ect they have not sold. Soooooooooo If anyone does not want pretty I would advise ordering a plain bow and I will grit my teeth and build it. Per request.

God bless you all, Steve

my 47# Sasquatch LB required me to jump from .400 spine to .340 to harness the power... I'm sure you'll find Steve's to be similar!

So I did some bare shaft testing with the 340's. did not get the results I expected but I think I am getting closer. The 340 shafts flew good and hit the target like I had the right spine BUT when I went back to 20 yds all arrows groups 6" left - indicating a stiff arrow. Then I grabbed the 400 axis again (only had fletched in the shed) - flew like darts and dead center of target. Shot thru paper - perfect bullet hole!  Ran back to house to get some bare shafts and shot them - all show weak. Grabbed the fletched arrows and went back to 30 yds - like darts! Never had that happen - I have always been able to get bare shafts and fletched to hit same spot and fly true. ??????

I guess there's a first time for everything. I have never had anyone have a hard time tuning one of my bows; Usually they comment on how easy they are to tune. I think you better send that bow back here so I can hunt with it this year.
Shoot the slow one and I will grab a grab bag of  mixed arrows and go hunting. LOL.

God bless and sounds like you are having too much fun Bro. Careful though or the word will be that my bows are hard to tune. BTW cut 3/16 past center or thereabouts. I use a chain saw to do it and in places the sight window is deeper than other places.

Sorry people keep asking me for updates and I am trying to post them, but I am only getting 10 minutes here and there to play. Please don't read into this that these bows are hard to tune and STEVE THIS BOW IS NOT HEADING BACK TO OREGON - staying in PA!!!  I just misread my indications on the 400 spine testing and then jumped to 340 unnecessarily. This bow is shooting darts with fletched arrows - still need to either fine tune point weight or maybe the way I am gripping this bow - who knows??  BUT this bow is SWEET!!

Shame I have to work to pay for all these bows cause work is really getting in the way of my bow time!

You know something Mike... There are may occasions I've seen guys spend hours bare shafting and paper tuning arrows, only to fletch up their shafts and screw broad heads on them and have to start over..... fletching configuration and broad heads are putting wings on those shafts. to me... I'm never planning on using bare shafts to hunt with, or shoot 3D either, so I rarely even mess with bare shafting.... I like tuning with broad heads, then soaking the feathers down and shooting them wet though... Unlike a lot of folks we Oregonian's hunt in the rain a lot, and keeping feathers dry is tough to do.....

OH.... go read the "Quiet BW" thread Mike. That was pretty good info regarding glove vs tab and type of glove material effecting noise level.... Kirk

NOw that is interesting. We now have a new method of tuning. Wet feather tuning. There are so many places in the world where instead of bare shafting they should be wet feather shafting. I am going right now and collaborate with Kirk to do an article  on this . I am sure that will be a hit with the Trad and Primative Mags.

On a more serious note I agree and am jumping right over to the BW thread to read it.

God bless, Steve

thanks John, the materials in this bow are as good as the best I have ever seen. I have a bunch of the black myrtle that is uncut and am hoping that there are some more like these. so far this one pair is the nicest I have got. All of it is really pretty but not this pretty. These look like a fire to me. Its hard to really get this bow with pictures but man in person it is just outstanding.

ken may be getting a brand new , brand new bow. I just finished the form for the belly mount Static limb that is based on the Storm Eagle . I will be building some prototypes when I get back from Eastern Oregon. Going on a little vacation to God's country. Anyway, like all you , I am working toward my dream bow. LOL. This one may be it. I sure love the top mount.

Brutha Steve,

I suppose if you took the time to bare shaft tune with field points it would be real close to wet feathers except.... the extra weight on the tail end of the shaft....

Seeing as you cannot bare shaft tune with broad heads it just seemed like the easiest way to do it to me.

kind of off subject here... but I noticed while doing this wet feather tuning with broad heads that the rotation of the broad heads being different effected the flight on some broad heads.
if I lined them all up the same I had much better results..... food for thought...kirk

I always line my two blades up with the cock feather. The threes I line up with the three feathers. You never want the broadhead to take over the flight. Funny things happen/ Before I learned this stuff about how to properly mount broadheads and to align them with a pointer for balance I had some broadheads do some really weird stuff. Like shoot a 12 foot circle around the biggest blacktail buck I have ever seen, Windplaned. LOL. Funny you don't see threads on this stuff but we all deal with it. Somewhere along the line I learned to make a pointer that the arrow lays in and has a pointer at one end that you spin the arrow and line the tips up. Of course this is when you are mounting on woodies with hot melt. But I do it with aluminums too.

God bless you all, Steve
