who else is ready for frog season???
I'm in. Love em.
WOW! Great shooting!
July 1st here in Kansas. We might even have enough water to support a Frog this year!!
bretto
We'll have to get back up to frog hollow and get with the program. That's a good spot!
I'm in! Ever hunt them from a boat?
Charlie,
Nice shooting.....looks like fun....tastes like chicken... :D
I just looked at the DEC website-- Frog opener is June15, not July.
There's a frog season there? Here they're everywhere-always hit six or seven when mowing grass. They're so plentiful as to be a nuisance.
Still, awesome that you can take a frog with a bow. New goal to work toward.
Do you have a daily limit, or just open season? Kinda hard to believe there's a set season.
Great shooting!
Charlie, I believe it starts June 15th bud. Snapping turtle starts July 15th.....
Cade and I hope to be out soon!

Yep I was looking at Turtle season when I posted.
June 15 is what I meant. :knothead:
Terry, to answer your question.. Yes and No. tried to shoot from a kyack once. I think at night with a spotlight could be a hoot!
Looks like a great time and even better table fare :)
I'll be missing opening day this year. Gotta work. My froggin partner will be out of town until July 2nd anyway. Looking forward to getting out though.
I worked at Clarkson U for a while years back...and the back roads around Potsdam and the surrounding small towns used to be covered up after dark by the biggest frogs I ever saw!
I never thought to go try to catch them and eat em!
Doh! :knothead:
Season here in Louisiana is closed during April and May. that is when they breed/spawn.
what kind of points do you use for frogs?? looks like fun.
Burt, You can use anything.
I have used judo's and blunts. You can use any small game head and i have seen people use field points.
Good luck NY Froggers in the morning.
Do you guy's have Bull frogs? most all our frogs are dinks around here.
Hmmm..... Wonder how many Charlie's got in the cooler???
Stone Knife- It's been my observation that there's only one or two Big Frogs in each pond I hunt. I don't know if there's a reason or just coincidence. The trick is having enough spots to hit. We find bull frogs and some big green frogs. I only go once a year so I do wish we had more big ones. I hunt Erie and Catt counties. That right there is fixin's for meal of LEGS!
Enjoy!
Shoot straight, Shinken

I recently have been wanting to start harvesting frogs, afterall there are more than 1000 miles of navigable waterways within 1.5 hours all around me, in the heart of the Delta. That doesn't even count the ditches, irrigation, ponds and backwaters. The native specie has been driven to near extinction by over harvesting during the gold rush and later by the invasive Bull frog.
Yes, there is a reason you see only one or two bigguns per waterway, they are the dominant male. They can and do eat anything that fits in their mouth, including other bulls.
What poundage are you shooting? I see a perfectly good reason to build a seperate board bow for froggin! Oh, no season or limit on American Bullfrogs here, and almost no restrictions. Just can't have any way to destroy habitat to unearth amphibians (move logs, smash rocks, dig up burrows, etc.).
Jim, Yes there are Bull frogs here and No, Not many big ones. I have found a few ponds though where there are some HUGE ones but they are off limits.
The frogs that Curt and Cade shoot seem to be much larger than what I usually see.
My limited experience seems to be a lot like Michael's.
I did not go froggin today but found a great way to spend the day with like minded bow folks instead. Thanks again to my host and ride. You guys know who you are
