I know we've had various threads touching on the 50's style recurve, but I thought we could list our favorites in one thread for those (like myself) looking to pick one up...something to add to the Compton shopping list!
So tell us about your 50's curve and if possible PICS!
I like the GN Ghost and Super Ghost.
River Runner by Chad Holm, Kota Killum, Bear Grizzly, G.N.Ghost,just to name a few!
Probably the best one I personally have shot is the Kohannah Kurve. Bob's bow is super smooth on the draw and shoots a flat arrow.
The new Bear 59 Kodiak anit bad.......stabow
Kinda like my '59 K Special. An actual 50's style recurve.
Haven't shot one but Ron Fox makes a nice looking one.
I have three BW PTFX`s . their classic lines and shootability draw me in .
Cheers from the Country that has everything except the Stanley Cup...
Only own one, but I love it. 62" Chesapeake by Tom Parsons. I like longbows and this thing has the longbow grip, just with flipped tips.
I have a soverign trident 50's style that is a sweet shooter
There are quite a few of the 50's recurves that have grips that fit me-Pearsons, Bears, Roots, Cravotta Brothers to name a few. Kyle, I think you're getting as many bows as I have!!!
Actually Phil I'm saving my pennies so I can come raid your stash! I'm sure you have few you you forgot you had...lol.
Talk to ya soon Bud.
Here's my favorite.

An original 59 Kodiak
Trap
The Whippenstick inferno is my favorite 50s style recurve overall.Very smooth, very fsst, dead in the hand and quiet.Beautifully shaped limbs as well!
In a Classic Vintage original 50s style I really like the 64 inch 59 Kodiak for a longer draw. The 1962 kodiak even though it was made in the 60s is a really great shooting Vintage 50s style recurve
The Robertson Peregrine is a good one if you can find one. It is the best performing bow my brother and I have ever tested.
Tough to beat a 59 Kodiak for nostalgia though.
D.P.
I've shot a bunch of them...hands down Toelke Chinook.
I can vouch for the BW PSR, Toelke Chinook, Kohanna Kurve, and the GN Super Ghost. I shot them all equally well and If I had to choose one, it'd be the PSR, but they're all pretty close.
Thinking about your Kurve right now, Sean! Nice bow!
I had a 64", 45@29" Kurve and let me tell you, it is one of the bows I most regret getting rid of! Needed money at the time or I would never have sold it. If your thinking about Sean's bow, I wouldn't hesitate to long.
Andrew will you have Gwen with you at Comptons? be sure to stop and say Hi
Mahaska, Mahaska, Mahaska..can't beat it for the money IMHO. money no object- Toelke!
David, I'm planning to come over to Compton on Saturday...if I can get away from work for the day. Gwen won't be with me. But, we're bringing our new/first travel trailer to GLLI and staying the weekend. Gwen wants to say hi and my wife Heidi would like to meet you and look into buying her first bow! My four year old son Eli is looking forward to his first GLLI; he's my little archery prodigy!
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. Now to decide which one or four to buy!
I have a Big River '59er that's a great shooting bow.
If I was looking for something different or a replacement for my Robertson Peregrine I'd want to checkout the Kota Killum, like the one RonW snagged before anyone else could blink from the classifies
Rusty
I don't know if it technically fits the description, but my Sheepeater Spirit static is my go-to bow right now. so much so that several others are gathering dust except for an occasional shooting session.
I have an REr Retro on order that i'm anxious to try. January is a while off...
Ed Holcomb 59" Kodiak repro or better yet an ORIGINAL 59' Kodiak...(or 1960 Kodiak)...a 57' Bear Kodiak by Holcomb or Original "59 would be my next pick....or............I gotta' stop...
I'm really digging my Great Northern Ghost. So much so I bought another one, same specs and cut it in half!!!
Now I have a back-up I can pack away nice and neat in a small little package. Great bows.
Mo
Tater john....what are you trying to say :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :dunno:
Nothin' I'm being a sorehead. :bigsmyl: One look and I new that killum had to be a fine bow  I hope you put good mojo on it this year.
I will say ...that Kota was a great buy and turns out to be a fine shooting bow.....easy on the eyes also. It reminds me of my old Bear Grizzly from the early 70's....but a bit quicker!
Andrew,
I had a beautiful fox breed I foolishly sold, as mentioned the Kota Killum another good one.
RER Retro, although it has static tips.... another favorite that you can't find, is the Ramhorn, by Jim Reynolds... "Another I wish I'd have kept"... LOL
Fox Breed,love the grip.
i really like my whisperstik mojostik......although I dont have a ton of experience
I like my wild horse creek, Mariah for a low pound bow it shoots like a 50# bow

Loved my 58 Griz and Love my 60 Kodiak also!
I have a Custom by Corky which is a good bow!!
I only have the one, but I love my Appalachian Archery recurve 58" and 60# @ 28".
Kohannah Kurve, Plain Jane like mine or with some nice lumber, sweet shooters.

I've always liked 50's style recurves, simple and classic. I've only had a couple, one was a beautiful Robetson Peregrine that I stupidly sold. The other is a McCullough 59'er that I still have and haven't done anything stupid with...yet...lol.
Traded this Maddog Retro away because it was too heavy for me but it sure was sweet.

Andrew - Susie and I will be set up in the vender tent. Come by and say hi. It will be good to visit with you.
--Mike (Wild Horse Creek Bows)
My favourite 50's style bows are all 1960 Kodiaks
DDave
Easily the Kohannah Kurve. I had a Super ghost and I would take the Kurve every time. Quieter, easier to set up, and flat out shot well. Loved that little bow! The only reason it's gone is I now shoot lefty and can't shoot RH.
All the Bear Kodiak line especially the Super Kodiaks.
