I own bows from several differing well known bow makers. But of all the bows I own, one of my favorites, and a bow I shoot probably the best, was made by a little known boyer from Iowa. This gentleman doesn't make this bow any more or I would have him make me another one just to have as a spare. The bow is my 21st Street Chinook 64" 58 @ 28" It is a medium R/D and I love how this bow shoots. I call it" Thumper".
What's your favorite little known bow and why?
Mine was my C &N Longbow. Craig has been building bows for 40 some odd years and its a American semi-longbow. Absolutely fantastic bow.
Mine is my old Hill style no name, 70 " 65-70 lb Yew limb black glass longbow that I call my "Blind Date" but as of today it seems we may have a runner up! :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
I forgot to add that my Chinook LB is a four lam, hickory cores with black walnut veneers, black glass on the back and clear on the belly. I don't know if it's that combo which makes it shoot so smooth or not, or if it's purely the design, but there's just something about the nature of it's cast that makes it a shooter.
Brian, what's your bow lams ect.
Paul, we get Thumper and Blind Date together, we just might have something. :scared: :biglaugh:
My home made hickory self bow, lots of work and sweat in her. She is not the prettiest or the quickest by far but made with my hands. I respect bowyers a lot more after that project.
I have a Shawn Petersen "Redtail " thats a dream
I have a 'no name' 62" static recurve takedown that kinda looks like a cross between a Silvertip and a Chastain, the name/maker info except for the draw@ wore off enough where I can't make it out. I posted pics on PowWow to try and identify it but no luck. It has neato diamondback skins on the limbs. Rosewood diamondwood riser with a bubinga and maple accent stripe, Bolivian rosewood veneers under clear glass, fastflight tips. Draws 71@31" or 64@28. I call it "Hog-ocalypse." It shoots a 780g arrow like most bows shoot a 500. It's sick. Got it on $bay for garage sale money.
Another bowyer/bow company that deserves kudos is River Raisin Bow Co. He's up in Michigan I believe. He isn't exactly no-name, but he's definitely not well known nationally. I had an R/D 60" 51# bow of his that was a wood feast, and man could it shoot looking back. I traded it and I kinda regret it. It was the first wood feast custom bow I ever owned which made it special and it was a shooter. Oh well.
I have a mild R/D longbow from Carpatian Traditional Archery (CTA), named Red Stag. It´s 64", 53#28@. I will never get rid of this bow! A shooter and a looker!

Mine would be my KennyM longbow. The only one I keep around and sold many top end that did not match the quality and shoot ability of this one.
My friend Dave Ricke is an awesome knifemaker, an associate sponsor here, but he also makes a heck of a bow. I have one of his td curves and love it, he also make a great shooting little longbow.
Very cool guys, keep em coming!
I don't know if this is a "no name" but there aren't many around by the numbers and it's a sweet short longbow-- Wild Horse Creek "Kestrel".
Thanks for the vote, Huntryx.

X2 on WHC.
I had a Dennis Willover "Lucky Stick" R/D longbow that was a nice shooter, and looked great, too. Shot fast and quiet, and had a nice grip.
I got rid of it because it was too heavy at my draw length, but it was a great bow.
I've got a Kolometz Special longbow that is fun to shoot. I've also got a Bill Price longbow that just hangs on the rack. Not long ago I picked up a Chippewa Tradition longbow that was new old stock-the bowyers granddaughter was selling everything. The Chippewa shop was on Kinchloe AFB in Michigan. All 3 are nice, but the Kolometz is the best.
I've got an all black ILF that was completely made by somebody here on Trad Gang. No name on this longbow. I bought it for a great price just to try out an ILF bow. I never expected it to shoot 193 fps at 48# with a 10 gpi arrow. It's a keeper.
Another vote for Vince Yak. I have the Phantom model he made for me and love shooting it. Very well made. I should have bought more of his bows!

Jim Martin Mahantango Custom Bows. I have two of his D/R longbows - one cocobolo riser, osage limbs, clear glass, one bubinga riser, bamboo limbs, clear glass, and a 50's style recurve, wenge and zebrawood, bamboo limbs, clear glass. These are my main shooters out of the 20+ bows that I own. Sorry, no pics.

I'll vote for the WHC Hawk
My Guave R/D self bow made by Manny from Hawaii, the selfbows he makes are simply the best, they rival any bow.
