Just got back from the leather shop.

5/6oz veg tanned bull hide double shoulder for b.glass and Caughtandhobble. Not yet quivers, but can you see them yet?
I'll post up while building, but, be forewarned. My work schedule will make this a longer project than I'd like, but, I don't want to rush this anyway in appreciation of the fine bids these two tradgngers put forth for St. Jude.
That's a 4' Swanson rule beneath it. This is a nice big piece of veg tanned leather.
Thank you Bona and Ben!! :clapper:
Oh man, this is gonna be cool!
Thom
There's going to be a couple of very happy people. :clapper: :archer2:
Tuned in Bud!
We want more! We want more!
Gotta go do some driving instruction on the P.I.T. maneuver and hopefully I can get some work done on them tonight.
Any lawman worth his salt should be able to stitch while teaching P.I.T maneuvers!
this will be good

They've been taught...this was a refresher. And they needed refreshing. Unless done in repetition and done often it's a perishable skill. I nearly perished of a heart attack on some of'em. :scared:
Five more sessions and this year's in-service training is over...and it'll be my last.
I'll try to do some quiver work tonight.
Looking forward to the updates.
Funny you should say that Danny
:)
Knife has been put to leather

Any particular brand leather or just "veg tanned" from Tandy? I'm looking to upgrade the stuff I use. I'm really interested in Horween.

Roughly 250 mallet blows and 118 holes later it still looks like flat leather, but the seeing eyes grasp more. More holes are needed as well as other crafting touches before it actually begins to look like a back quiver.

Don't grab the coffee cups y'all. I gotta go meet some old friends for supper. This is likely all I'll be able to get accomplished today unless something changes.
Thanks for tuning in though.
Thanks for sharing Brother, in every way!!!

This says it as well as I ever could, maybe even better.

A little more work tonight. One is getting close.

I got on a roll last night and before I knew it I had forgotten about the camera. My wife was at a concert and I had no one to do any live action shots.
Work will have me now. Progress over the next several days will be slow. 13 hour work days (travel time included)leave little time for much else.
Here's how I got the bottom oval. I used one of my wife's glasses as a guide for the width and trimmed the card stock oval down to get the length. Then traced onto leather.

I then measured where I wanted the holes and marked 36 spots 1/2" apart.

Great stuff.....you've got me thinking about tackling one to go with my new Half Breed.
EXCELLANT!!!!!!!!!! Looking GREAT!!!!!
Sure wish I had bid on these!!!
Nice!
My apologies for the delay. Lots going on right now.
I have the first one finished and getting into shape. When totally dry I'll start the leather treatment process.

The quiver is looking awesome!!!
What does your leather treatment consist of?
Neetsfoot oil or Olive oil and this...
If you're more into water repellancy, use mink oil.
This one is yours, Ben, btw.

Great work, Bud. Very nicely done.
They're looking good, thank you!!!
Nice! I bet you could sell those easily if you were so inclined.
Bona's is finished.
(http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f94/Equismith/100_9165.jpg) (http://s45.photobucket.com/user/Equismith/media/100_9165.jpg.html)
Off to the leather store once more and then I need to find or make some shipping boxes.
I got Ben's totally finished today. I added a pouch at his request.
Bona and Ben,
I really appreciate your bids for the kids at St. Jude. I hope these quivers give you many years of service. I'm already looking forward to next year's auction.
(http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f94/Equismith/100_9239.jpg) (http://s45.photobucket.com/user/Equismith/media/100_9239.jpg.html)
Bud,
Thank you very much! Nice don't even begin to describe my new quiver, I could not be happier. That pouch is much nicer than the Crown Royal bag hanging inside my old quiver, LOL. I always like to have an extra string, along with a stringer while hunting, that will fit the bill perfect. Thanks again Brother.
Thanks,
Ben
Great work again Bud, thanks for sharing your skill, your time and your generosity. Not to mention all you've done for St. Jude C. H. My hat is off to you Sir! :clapper:
They look awesome! Thanks to all for donating to the auction :clapper:
Hey Dave, I finished your trammel last night.
Thanks for the compliments y'all. I appreciate all of them.
Bona's shipped Saturday. I'll get yours shipped Monday or Tuesday Ben along with Knawbone's cook set.

Times 2, Bud. You did an outstanding job on those quivers, and it was a generous labor of love.
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Beautiful work and for a great cause
Hats off to all involved
Those quivers look great Bud.  Thanks for taking us along on the build. Do you get the leather locally or order it? I'm ready to try my hand at building one.
My leather is local.
zackwhite.com
Ordering it would be a hassle and add cost to the leather due to shipping. Their shop is about 12 miles away. I'm kicking around the idea of making one out of Buffalo grain oil tanned. I am getting too many back quivers sitting in corners though. :biglaugh:
Wow, thanks for all the pics on this thread! A few of them have my wheels turning about how I can make my next one better!
Thom
Those are just too cool Bud!!! Thank you for you generous donation to the kids. Wish I could've won one of them.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Very Nice
It is sooo cool to watch my quiver being made. A truly outstanding job on your part Bud! Both the talent to make them and the desire to help the kids!
:clapper:
Bona
Well Bud, maybe you should sell a few
I don't mind making them but selling them might take the fun out of it. I have one more to make then I'm taking it easy and do some fishing and also scouting for fall.
Thanks for the insight into crafting these Bud....very fine work. Congrats to those who won them, and for what y'all have done for St. Jude's.
