Post by: old_goat2 on June 09, 2013, 11:47:00 PM: unfortunately, 2 trad seasons in the books and no trad elk to show for it, got a trad whitetail deer, and a trad grouse last season though. Two critters that always eluded me with wheels, so hopefully the ice is broke and this will be the year!

Post by: Lost Arra on June 10, 2013, 04:19:00 PM: I sat on a trail 100 yards from this guy and his harem for 5 hours. Wind was good but too many eyes bedded down around him for a stalk. I had seen 30 elk earlier in the day march right up this trail but when this group finally moved it was halfway up the trail then they turned through an open boulder field at 50 yards! AAAHH!

He would score real well... not that that matters so much.. but he was a BEAST! I was 40 yards away doing the calling and he sent a major chill up my spine.

I don't remember if it was the same day or not, but I do remember crawling out of that very tent and seeing a cow moose at 30 yds, the big bull we saw several times at 18 and the subordinate bull at 12. What a beautiful sight and experience to wake up to.

Post by: Angus on June 10, 2013, 11:14:00 PM: I"m doing the first scout of the season this Wednesday, searching for the mighty wapiti. Might as well begin now as later! We didn't get into them last season thanks to torrential rain that basically wiped out elk camp, but we did both smell and hear them, including one lone bugle. I suppose the benefit of the pouring rain was we had a taste of what homeless people endure in the winter. It wasn't fun, and we were all reminded of "there but for the grace of God...". Kinda put a different spin on elk camp!
